Cherry Hill has agreed to put on hold its motion to force a tax sale of Woodcrest Country Club pending an auction arranged by a bankruptcy trustee. Township solicitor Robert Wright said at a hearing Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Camden that it was in the township's best interests for the May 20 auction to move forward, with proceeds used to pay Cherry Hill $160,000 it says it is owed in taxes. Cherry Hill Land Associates, a subsidiary of First Montgomery Group of Marlton, has agreed to buy the 155-acre property for $6.25 million.

Eric O'Dell found out an apartment complex had been proposed for his part of Cherry Hill from a flier someone left on his windshield. He was stunned. The impassioned e-mail he subsequently wrote was forwarded all across town, which is how Lynda Yamamoto heard the news. And a phone call is what brought Susan McNaughton, a veteran of Cherry Hill development disputes in the 1970s, back to the front lines. "This is the biggest organized thing about a zoning issue I've ever been involved with," McNaughton, 66, said.

Cherry Hill intends to bid on the Woodcrest Country Club when the bankrupt golf course goes up for auction next month, township officials announced Wednesday. Mayor Chuck Cahn has asked Camden County to contribute money for the bid, which will have to top $6.5 million under terms set this week by a bankruptcy court judge. The township wants to ensure the 155-acre club — which entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings last year and didn't open for the season — remains a golf course or is preserved as open space, Cahn said.

John Martorano Jr. spends each day amid pallets heaped with junked computer towers and monitors, burned-out TVs, vacuums past their sucking prime, and old police scanners that have squawked for the last time. Recycling electronic waste is this South Jersey entrepreneur's preoccupation, one that took root in far different environs: in the meadows and forests of the Medford Wildlife Management Area, as he was accompanied by his dog at the time, Archie, on a tranquil walk. Tranquil, that is, until Martorano's blood started to boil about something on the cedar-lined trail.
