THE SOUL re-signed quarterback Dan Raudabaugh to a 2-year contract, the Daily News has learned from a league source. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Raudabaugh, the team's offensive leader the last three seasons, represents the first key player to rejoin the club. He has an extensive relationship with head coach Clint Dolezel. Dolezel was re-signed in September, also for two seasons. The Soul went a disappointing 9-9 this past season and was eliminated by Cleveland in the first-round of the playoffs.

RON JAWORSKI treats opportunity like a Doberman treats prime rib. So when Tim Tebow was released by the New York Jets on April 29, Jaworski took a shot by reaching out to the unemployed quarterback and offered him a roster spot with the Soul. He's still waiting for a reply. "I haven't heard back from him and I'm not going to push it," said Jaworski, one of the Soul's owners. "If he decides he wants to play Arena Football, we'll make a spot for him. " Jaworski and Soul coach Clint Dolezel sent Tebow a list of plays they had in mind for him, most were around the goal line.

THE SOUL will promote Clint Dolezel to head coach, according to an Arena Football League source. He will replace Doug Plank, who resigned last week. Dolezel was the offensive coordinator/assistant head coach this season and guided a record-setting offense that struck a nice balance between quarterback Dan Raudabaugh's effective passing and Derrick Ross' bruising running. The defense was run by Plank, who stepped down for family reasons following the Soul's 15-3 season, which culminated in a loss to Arizona in the ArenaBowl.

Tommy Grady dropped back into the emerald turf behind his lineman looking for a darting Utah Blaze receiver sprinting across the arena. Bryan Robinson, however, had different plans. The strapping lineman attacked the quarterback just shy of the 45-yard line. Grady tried to scramble but was pinned on the boards while the 285-pound defender recorded the franchise record in sacks during the play, dragging the 6-foot-7 passer down to earth. FORMER EAGLES defensive tackle Hollis Thomas will be an assistant coach for the Soul this season. Thomas, 39, will work with the Soul's defensive line in a part-time capacity that also will allow him to continue as an occasional host for 94WIP radio. "I think it's going to be fun," said Thomas, who played for the Eagles from 1996-2005. "I had a lot of good D-line coaches and it's my duty to try to pass along some of that knowledge. " Thomas made the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois and was a key member of some of those great Jim Johnson-led defenses in the early 2000s.

ATLANTIC CITY - The Soul's first foray into Atlantic City wasn't a royal flush, but it wasn't snake eyes either. The local arena team hauled its 50-yard field and its own padded walls down the AC Expressway for its first-ever regular-season home game away from the South Philly sports complex. After a sluggish first half, the Soul dispatched Las Vegas, 51-43. But the Boardwalk experiment was more than a football game for the AFL, which is forever trying to nudge its way up to the feeding dish occupied by the more mainstream sports in Philadelphia.

NOBODY KNOWS better than Phillies fans how debilitating a torn Achilles' tendon can be to an athlete. Ryan Howard hasn't been the same since 2011. Soul wide receiver Ryan McDaniel tore his right Achilles' in the middle of last season. He has rebounded to become one of the best receivers in the Arena League. "There was never a doubt that he would come back and be full strength by training camp," coach Clint Dolezel said emphatically. "Never a doubt. " In fairness to Howard, McDaniel was 25 and in his second AFL season when he was hurt, while Howard was 31 and finishing his 10th professional baseball season.
