Michael Beasley griped about some calls, tumbled after missing layups, then shook his head in disappointment after a rebound bounced off his outstretched hands. After his first summer league game drew raves, Beasley looked like a rookie in his second. One day after scoring 28 points in his much-hyped debut, Beasley returned to earth yesterday, finishing with only nine points in Miami's 90-81 summer league win over New Jersey in Orlando. The second overall pick in last month's draft was a mere mortal, missing all but one of his 13 shots from the field and collecting nearly as many fouls (seven; there's no automatic disqualification in summer league)

There were boos early and at the end for the Washington Wizards, who dropped to a franchise-worst 0-9 with a 96-89 home loss to the Indiana Pacers (5-7) on Monday night. Indiana's David West scored a season-best 30 points, and Roy Hibbert broke out of a slump with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Still without injured point guard John Wall and starting center Nene, the Wizards are the only team in the NBA without a victory. They started 0-8 a year ago, the club's previous worst opening to a season.

Puerto Rico's professional basketball league has engaged in a few conversations with Allen Iverson about a possible contract, according to Yahoo Sports. Baloncesto Superior Nacional believes that the former MVP and 11-time all-star will be a ticket-seller and possible iconic figure within the league. Iverson's manager has talked to the Puerto Rican league officials about a price, but after Iverson's experience in Turkey it was unclear whether he would consider playing in a league outside of the NBA. The Puerto Rican league starts its 30-game season in March, and it pays its stars about $20,000 a month, plus living expenses.

Former 76ers center Samuel Dalembert, now a Milwaukee reserve, got on a roll for the best game of his 10-year career on Tuesday night, turning in a 35-point performance for the Bucks against Denver. But the Nuggets found an answer, getting 22 points each from Danilo Gallinari and Ty Lawson as they rallied past the Bucks, 112-104, for a home win and their seventh straight victory. "Of course, we were shocked," Lawson said of Dalembert's game. "You don't see many players in the NBA get 35 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.

An NBA official says the Washington Wizards are planning to fine some players for participating in Gilbert Arenas' on-court antics that made light of his gun troubles. The official told the Associated Press that the team will review details from the Tuesday night game at Philadelphia before determining who will be fined and how much. The official has direct knowledge of the team's plans and spoke on condition of anonymity because the review was still ongoing. Before the game, Arenas was surrounded by his teammates when he knelt on the court and pointed his index fingers at them, as if he were firing a pair of guns.

METTA WORLD Peace was subdued and contrite in the Lakers' locker room, apologizing to Oklahoma City's James Harden for throwing the elbow that sent them both to the locker room in the second quarter. They both missed a beauty of a game that could echo into the playoffs for two division leaders. Kobe Bryant scored six of his 26 points in the second overtime alongside an unorthodox Lakers lineup, and Los Angeles rallied from an 18-point deficit in the second half for a 114-106 victory Sunday over the visiting Thunder.

This one had to hurt. Up by five points with 3 minutes, 24 seconds left against the road-weary and struggling Denver Nuggets, the 76ers appeared on their way a second victory in three games. Denver, however, went on a 12-1 run en route to taking a 108-105 victory Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center. The loss dropped the Sixers to 1-20. They have blown six fourth-quarter leads in their last seven losses. "This one definitely hurts like most of them do," Nerlens Noel said.

THE THING about tweets is that they usually elicit the rawest of emotions. At about 12:59 a.m. yesterday, former 76ers All-Star swingman Andre Iguodala simply tweeted, "Wow!!!" He then quickly followed with "Really?? Ok . . . MOTIVATION!!!!!!" Iguodala's tweets were in response to the news that the Sacramento Kings had abruptly yanked a reported 4-year, $56 million contract deal off of the table. It seemed "Iggy" tried to pull some fancy footwork on the lowly Kings by using their offer as a bargaining chip to try to get more money out of the Denver Nuggets - the team he played for last season after the Sixers traded him in the Andrew Bynum deal.
