As expected, Todd Herremans was moved to right guard after the Eagles took tackle Lane Johnson with their first overall draft pick. Herremans played every snap with the first-team offense on Monday, the first day of organized team activities. Johnson did not run with the starters - he had only a three-day rookie minicamp under his belt before Monday - but that is certainly the expectation. In Johnson's place was second-year lineman Dennis Kelly. Jason Peters was at his usual spot at left tackle.

Part one of a series. The Eagles gather for their first "organized team activity" - otherwise known as "practice" - on Monday. It will also be the first time Chip Kelly has the entire 90-man roster on the field together. He will spend the next four weeks evaluating his team and organizing his depth chart before a month-and-a-half break before training camp. But Zach Berman and I will get you up to date on the roster and spend the next two weeks assessing where the Eagles stand at each spot.

THE OFFENSIVE line arrayed in front of Michael Vick this week at Chip Kelly's first minicamp might look pretty different from the group that takes the field next month, when the team again assembles. The Eagles hold the fourth overall pick in the April 25-27 NFL draft, and with three offensive tackles expected to go in the top 10, plus a couple of guards, the veterans on the line could soon be welcoming to their group the highest-drafted Eagle since Donovan McNabb arrived (accompanied by boos, local legend holds)

EAGLES STARTING left guard Evan Mathis confirmed to the Daily News yesterday that he has undergone an ankle "cleanout," which Mathis said would sideline him through the remaining spring workouts. Mathis said he expects to be fine by training camp. The procedure was first reported by CSNPhilly's Reuben Frank. This would barely be worth noting, except when the Eagles drafted offensive tackle Lane Johnson fourth overall last month, the selection seemed likely to end Danny Watkins' chances of going to camp as a starter; the obvious move would be to start Johnson at right tackle and move Todd Herremans back to guard.

Eagles guard Evan Mathis recently underwent surgery to "clean out" his left ankle and could miss the rest of spring practices, an NFL source said. The source called the surgery "minor. " Mathis played most of last season with an ankle injury - he started every game - and was slated to undergo surgery once the offseason began. The Eagles decided the procedure was unnecessary, but recent swelling and discomfort in the ankle prompted the team to reconsider. He is expected to be ready by the start of training camp in late July.

Eagles running back LeSean McCoy and left tackle Jason Peters were named to the Pro Football Weekly-Professional Football Writers of America all-NFL team on Monday. Right guard Danny Watkins was named to the all-rookie team. Coach of the year was the San Francisco 49ers' Jim Harbaugh. The group named Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers the MVP. Former Eagles kicker David Akers shared the Golden Toe award (best placekicker or punter) with 49ers teammate Andy Lee.

Crunch Time is a compilation of notable hits and a few misses from Eagles training camp at Bethlehem. There was no live hitting Thursday, just some "thud" sessions in which players collide but don't wrap up. Maybe that will help Derek Landri explain getting run over by LeSean McCoy. Joselio Hanson tried to jump the route, but DeSean Jackson plucked the Michael Vick pass away from him and took it to the house. Fletcher Cox really went after Danny Watkins in the 1-on-1 line drills, earning praise from Jim Washburn.

Here are some things to expect at Eagles camp on Thursday: Top pick Danny Watkins is struggling at right guard after missing the first few days of camp, so keep an eye out to see whether he looks sharper today. Maybe DeSean Jackson will show up, too. Workouts are set at 8:05 for the morning practice and 2:45 for the afternoon walk-through. Special-teams coach Bobby April is scheduled to speak to the media, so check out our Birds' Eye View blog for a real-time update.

EAGLES LEFT TACKLE Jason Peters said he is ready to return and expects to play Sunday night against Dallas. Peters missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. He was back on the practice field Monday for the Eagles' abbreviated session. "I'm going to rock," Peters said on the team website yesterday. "Sunday, I'll be out there. " Peters was not available Monday when reporters were allowed access to the locker room. Fellow linemen said Monday the first-team o-line was Peters, left guard Evan Mathis, center Jason Kelce, right guard Danny Watkins and right tackle Todd Herremans.

He came, he saw, he left without a contract. Demetrius Bell was still a free agent when he departed Philadelphia after visiting with the Eagles over the weekend. The left tackle has met with four teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, and Green Bay Packers, since the start of free agency last month. But he remains on the market even though the Eagles were scrambling to find a starting left tackle after Jason Peters suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon last week.
