KANSAS CITY Chiefs coach Andy Reid hired former Bears assistant Dave Toub to direct special teams and announced that he's retaining linebackers coach Gary Gibbs and defensive backs coach Emmitt Thomas from the previous staff. Toub has spent the past nine seasons with the Bears. Before that, he worked with special teams and the defensive line for Reid in Philadelphia. At the news conference, Reid announced he will be calling the offensive plays. Doug Pederson will be in his first season as an offensive coordinator after serving as the Eagles' quarterbacks coach.

TEMPLE'S new football coach, Matt Rhule, has hired a defensive coordinator. Phil Snow comes to North Broad Street after three seasons holding the same positon at Eastern Michigan. Both were on the UCLA staff in 2001. "I could not have wanted to bring any coach [here with me] more than Phil Snow," Rhule said in a statement. Snow - who was an assistant coach with the Detroit Lions in 2005-08 and has also been a DC at Boise State, Arizona State, UCLA and Washington - replaces Chuck Heater, who is leaving for the same position at Marshall.

Anyone watching Penn State's sideline at Beaver Stadium last season noticed that secondary coach John Butler was the most animated member of the staff, feverishly urging on his players and often appearing as if he would run on the field to congratulate or scold one of them. Now that the 1991 La Salle High graduate has been promoted to defensive coordinator for the Nittany Lions, he said he's not going to change. "It's who you are," Butler said Thursday during a conference call.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Given perhaps one last chance to throw somebody from the Eagles under the bus, Andy Reid took the road he traveled for 14 years in Philadelphia. But the ex-Eagles coach, upon his formal introduction as the Chiefs new head coach, subtly gave some insight into why it all went so wrong during his last two seasons. Asked if the decline could have been avoided if he had more say on the direction of the team, Reid said no. But he did intimate that the "joint effort" of the Eagles' decision-makers was no longer producing the desired results.

Temple football coach Matt Rhule on Monday officially announced the addition of assistant coaches Allen Mogridge, Brandon Noble and Marcus Satterfield to his staff. Rhule also announced that Ed Foley was promoted to assistant head coach, Francis Brown was named a full-time assistant coach, and Sean Padden was hired as director of football operations. Foley had been Temple's director of operations the last two seasons. Brown served as a graduate assistant last year, and Padden spent the last five years in the pharmaceutical industry and was the defensive line coach at Bonner in 2012.

Temple's new football coach, Matt Rhule, has hired former Penn State defensive lineman Brandon Noble and Tennessee-Chattanooga offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield for his staff. The 38-year-old Noble, who was a college teammate of Rhule's, will be the defensive line coach. Satterfield will serve as an offensive assistant. Rhule reportedly is interested in hiring Nevada offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich as his offensive coordinator. A five-year NFL veteran who played with Dallas and Washington, Noble spent this season as defensive line/special teams coach at Coastal Carolina.
