Cable News Network talk-show host Larry King got an unappetizing serving aboard a Metroliner stopped at 30th Street Station en route from Washington to New York over the weekend. He was served with legal papers seeking support for his most recent spouse, Philadelphia businesswoman Julie Alexander King, from whom he became estranged 57 weeks after the nuptials. "How did you know I was going to be on this train?" Julie King's lawyer, prominent Philadelphia attorney Richard A. Sprague, quoted a startled King as asking when two of Sprague's investigators boarded the Metroliner at 30th Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday and found him in the parlor car. A Feb. 20 hearing was scheduled before Common Pleas Judge Leonard Ivanoski in Family Court.

We all know Knight's voice. A rich, heart-and-gut contralto, it's as much her trademark as Mick Jagger's lips are his or Tina Turner's gams are hers. For 37 years, until she went solo in 1989, her gospel-hued vocals provided the lead for Gladys Knight and the Pips, the rhythm-and-blues group as legendary for its longevity as for its hits.
