LOS ANGELES - Bill Haas wound up making the biggest putt of them all at Riviera. On the second extra hole of a three-way playoff Sunday - made possible by clutch birdie putts from Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley on the final hole - Haas rolled in a 45-foot birdie putt across the 10th green to win the Northern Trust Open. Haas closed with a 2-under 69 and won a PGA Tour event for the third straight year. He was on the practice range at 7-under 277, warming up for a playoff that didn't look likely.

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Sun Young Yoo won the Kraft Nabisco Championship with an 18-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole Sunday, earning her first major title after I.K. Kim missed a 1-foot putt on the final hole of regulation. Yoo won the LPGA Tour's first major of the season with steady play down the stretch, but she got to make the traditional leap into Poppie's Pond only after Kim's mind-boggling miss on the same green minutes earlier. Yoo and Kim finished at 9 under, but Kim could have all but wrapped up her first major with the tap-in putt.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. - Brendon de Jonge and Webb Simpson share the lead halfway through the Greenbrier Classic. De Jonge shot a 3-under-par 67 on Friday while Simpson had a 68. They are at 7 under. First-round leader Trevor Immelman shot a 70 and was at 6 under. Five others are 2 shots back. The redesigned Old White TPC course showed its teeth Friday with Simpson and de Jonge the only two of the top 10 from the first round to break par in the second. CROMWELL, Conn. - Englishman Brian Davis shot a 6-under 64, and Roland Thatcher had a 65 on Saturday to share the third-round lead in the Travelers Championship at 12 under. Davis made an early move of the TPC River Highlands, shooting 29 on the front nine with six birdies. Thatcher overtook him with three straight birdies on the back nine and had a 1-stroke lead before missing a 7-foot par putt on the 17th hole. Seventeen other players are within 5 strokes of the lead entering the final round.

Ranked 218th in the world, Potter overcame a 4-stroke deficit with four holes to play, finishing with his second straight 6-under 64 to match Kelly at 16 under. Kelly closed with a 66. CROMWELL, Conn. - Marc Leishman shot an 8-under 62 on Sunday in the Travelers Championship, then went back to the clubhouse to eat, watch some soccer, and see where he would finish. More than two hours later, after Charley Hoffman blew a 2-stroke lead on the final two holes, Leishman was hoisting his first trophy on the PGA Tour. Leishman, a 28-year-old Australian, began the day 6 strokes behind the leaders but made eight birdies in a bogey-free round. He finished at 14-under 266. Hoffman was 16 under heading to the 17th hole but pushed his tee shot right and into the water.

AVONDALE, La. - Jason Dufner beat Ernie Els with a birdie on the second hole of a playoff in the Zurich Classic on Sunday to win for the first time in 164 starts on the PGA Tour. After entering the fourth round with a 2-shot lead, Dufner shot a 2-under 70 at TPC Louisiana. Els had a 67 to match Dufner at 19-under 269. After both players missed birdie putts within 8 feet on the par-5 18th, they went back to the 18th tee for the second extra hole, which Dufner won by hitting the green in 2 strokes and tapping home a short birdie putt after Els' birdie attempt from the fringe narrowly missed.

LAS VEGAS - Jimmy Castor, a New York funk and soul saxophonist, singer and songwriter whose tune "It's Just Begun" morphed over 40 years into an anthem for generations of hip-hoppers and mainstream musical acts, died of apparent heart failure in a Las Vegas hospital, his family said yesterday. He was 71. Castor's music, including another 1972 hit, "Troglodyte," spoke for itself thousands of times in riffs and samples by rappers like NWA, the 2 Live Crew, Kanye West, Ice Cube and Mos Def, as well as acts such as the Spice Girls, Christina Aguilera and Madonna.

PARIS - American Stacy Lewis made a birdie on the last hole to share the lead with South Korea's Inbee Park after the third round of the Evian Masters on Saturday. Lewis, who is chasing her third LPGA Tour title of the year, had a 1-over 73 to finish the day at 11 under. The overnight leader had two bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine before a birdie on the 18th. "I feel like I'm still in the tournament and just got to make some putts tomorrow," said Lewis, who equaled the course record in her opening round.
