ORLANDO MAGIC forward Hedo Turkoglu was suspended 20 games by the NBA on Wednesday after testing positive for steroids. The NBA said Turkoglu tested positive for methenolone, an anabolic steroid. He began serving the suspension Wednesday night when the Magic lost to the visiting Atlanta Hawks, 108-76. Josh Smith led the Hawks with 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Jameer Nelson and Andrew Nicholson scored 10 points each for the Magic. Turkoglu said he took medication from a trainer in Turkey this past summer to help him recover from a shoulder injury and mistakenly neglected to check it against the league's list of banned substances.

Former 76er Lou Williams scored 10 of his 19 points during Atlanta's decisive fourth-quarter surge; Al Horford had 23 points and 12 rebounds; and the Hawks beat the Thunder, 104-95, on Sunday night in Oklahoma City. Williams, who was let go by the Sixers despite leading them in scoring last season, hit a three-pointer, a 24-foot jumper, and converted a three-point play off a driving scoop in the lane during a 12-4 push midway through the fourth quarter that put the Hawks in front to stay.

A day after Sixers coach Doug Collins gave no credence to a blog post that suggested he had lost his team, an opponent that could give any NBA squad a run in the drama department came limping into the Wells Fargo Center. The Orlando Magic entered Saturday's game against the 76ers on a five-game losing streak, missing injured starters Ryan Anderson and Hedo Turkoglu, and in full damage control after one of the most bizarre news conferences in NBA history. On Thursday, Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy told reporters that all-star center Dwight Howard wanted him fired.

THE MAGIC had to beat the best to overcome the sting of losing to the worst. Dwight Howard had 29 points and 18 rebounds to lead Orlando to a 99-94 win over the visiting Bulls last night, snapping Chicago's eight-game winning streak. The Magic bounced back from a 100-84 loss at Charlotte, beating the Bulls two nights after losing to the Bobcats, who sport a league-worst 5-32 record. Despite the loss, Chicago's 33-9 mark is tops in the Eastern Conference. "We stepped up tonight and everybody played great," Howard said.

Joe Johnson provided his usual offensive spark. His biggest play, though, was getting a hand on a missed shot. Johnson scored 23 points and came up with a huge offensive rebound, leading the Atlanta Hawks to an 84-81 victory in Game 6 last night, knocking the visiting Orlando Magic out of the playoffs. The Hawks, who won the series 4-2, advanced to the second round for the third straight year, this time against top-seeded Chicago. The Magic, who routed Atlanta a year ago in the most lopsided four-game sweep in NBA history, head into an uncertain offseason after their earliest playoff ouster since 2007.

The Orlando Magic entered last night's game wanting nothing more than to show signs of a team ready for the postseason. And a 95-85 victory over the ailing New Jersey Nets kept the Magic's momentum going. They still aren't where they want to be, but they're getting closer. Dwight Howard had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Hedo Turkoglu added 20 points and 13 assists to help the Magic hold off the Nets, 95-85. Orlando won its fifth straight and completed a 4-0 season sweep of New Jersey.

Howard, Magic dominate Knicks again Dwight Howard caught the ball with a smaller opponent behind him, and a Magic teammate screamed out from the bench, "Too little!" Yes, the New York Knicks have big problems, and Orlando's all-star center is only one of them. After a slow start this season, the Toronto Raptors finally have things rolling. Now if they can only keep it going longer. Andrea Bargnani and Chris Bosh had 18 points apiece, and the visiting Raptors nearly blew an 18-point fourth quarter lead before holding off the Orlando Magic for a 108-103 victory last night. "I think everybody knows everybody else better now," said Hedo Turkoglu, who came to Toronto in a sign-and-trade deal from Orlando in the offseason. Dwight Howard had 20 rebounds and 13 points, and the Orlando Magic rolled to an easy 102-87 win over the visiting Houston Rockets last night. Howard outmuscled a Rockets team lacking size and strength in the middle with Yao Ming out for the season. The NBA's reigning defensive player of the year blocked four shots and showed how dominant he can be even on a night when he didn't have his best offensive game. Jameer Nelson added 15 points in his first start since Nov. 16, helping the Magic win for the fifth time in six games ahead of a Christmas Day match against the Boston Celtics.
