Who is the special guest for the Academy of Music's 156th birthday in January? Is it: (a) A highly respected song-and-dance man? (b) The sexiest man alive, 2008? Or (c) a wolverine? In a gesture of considerably greater Hollywood dash than previous years, Academy leaders are importing all three in a single guest: Hugh Jackman. The Australian actor and singer will perform Jan. 26 with the Philadelphia Orchestra for the Academy of Music Anniversary Concert. Jackman, 43, wasn't available for an interview, an orchestra spokeswoman said, and details of the program are not yet set. However, she said, "we are told we can expect highlights from some of his award-winning performances, that he will dance, and that it will be an all-around theatrical performance, including some of his comedic wit. As always, we will leave much of this to be a surprise to the audience.

HAVING TWICE before been typecast as a boxing writer in movies - a nonspeaking role in "Play It to the Bone" and a brief speaking part in "Rocky Balboa" - I wasn't totally shocked when Chip Namias, a former NFL media-relations director who now has his own public relations firm, asked me if I would be willing to join four other boxing writers for cameos in "Real Steel," the robotic boxing movie that opened Oct. 7. Hey, the star is Hugh Jackman, who...

"You won't see me do a seven-minute monologue," pledges Hugh Jackman, host of the 81st Annual Academy Awards (8:30 tonight on 6ABC), via cell phone Tuesday en route to rehearsals. "You won't see me dance with Snow White. You won't see me dressed as Hannibal Lecter. And you won't see me be late - though the show could run that way," he promises, tweaking Oscarcasts past in which Rob Lowe infamously twirled a Disney heroine and Billy Crystal took the stage in the mask of an infamous antihero.

Kate & Leopold is a romantic comedy starring Meg Ryan as a cynical Manhattan marketing exec who, after much heartbreak, meets the ideal man (Hugh Jackman). There are two snags. One is that Meg's perfect man hails from 1876. The other is that he must return. Told from the other direction, Kate & Leopold is a ripping yarn about a 19th-century gentleman inventor who despairs of finding a soul mate, is thrust through a time gap that takes him to the 21st century, and meets a woman of like spirit.

Director Julie Taymor filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the producers of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark , alleging they violated her creative rights and have not compensated her for the work she put into Broadway's most expensive musical. The show's spokesman said he was not aware of the lawsuit, filed in federal court in New York. Taymor was not available to comment. Taymor, who had been the Spider-Man director and cowriter of the book, was fired in March from the $75 million production featuring music by U2's Bono and the Edge, after years of delays, accidents, and critical backlash.

WITH A projected $125 million opening weekend and an incredible 94 percent "fresh" rating on RottenTomatoes, it appears "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is set to not only revive the mutant franchise but take it to new heights. Fox certainly has confidence in the film, as there has been talk among producers that "Days Of Future Past" could lead to as many as 10 new or rejuvenated X-film franchises. These include already-confirmed "X-Men: Apocalypse" in 2016, a third "Wolverine" film starring Hugh Jackman in 2017 and a "Gambit" solo film starring Channing Tatum.

"AMAZING Spider-Man 2" star Andrew Garfield recently stirred some controversy when he said he brought up the possibility that Miles Morales - the half-black/half-Latino teen who replaced Peter Parker as Spidey in Marvel's Ultimate comic-book line - could replace him as the movie Spider-Man once Garfield spins his last web. While many dismissed the idea, Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso is not among them. "Yeah, I could easily see it happening," Alonso told Tattle Comics Guy Jerome Maida . "I'm excited by the prospect of seeing the world's most recognizable superhero peel back the mask and show a new face and how inclusive that would be and what a statement that would make - and I don't think I'm alone!"

Hugh Jackman threw himself a birthday party with 4,500 guests - but they had to pay to attend. He spent his 45th birthday Saturday at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre, where he sang, danced, and told stories for "One Night Only," a concert that raised $1.85 million for the Motion Picture & Television Fund, which provides health care and other services to entertainment industry workers and retirees. And if there's one thing you don't want in a movie in which much of your acting is done naked and in bed, it's cold feet. Dakota Johnson remains in the co-starring role of Anastasia Steele.

On a break from her Diamonds World Tour, Rihanna stopped at the Thai island of Phuket, where she posted a link on Twitter to an Instagram photo that showed her snuggling up to a furry primate called the slow loris, and tweeted Friday: "Look who was talkin dirty to me!"
