WHEN TATTLE heard that "Teen Mom" Farrah Abraham made a sex tape with porn star James Deen and then lied about it (pretending that it was a secret sex tape that no one was supposed to see), we thought, what kind of message does lying send to your young daughter? We already know what kind of message the tape sends. But a 21-year-old single mom has to take care of her kid, so Farrah has sold the tape to Vivid Entertainment for an undisclosed amount - rumored to be close to $1 million, but who knows.

NEW YORK - The market had a wishy-washy Friday, capping an equally directionless week. In a week with no major developments in Europe's debt crisis, and no surprising reports on the U.S. economy, the market struggled for direction. And in a market that has grown used to triple-digit swings on the Dow, this week brought none - the first time since early May that that's happened. It was a marked change from the same week a year ago. Then, the Dow swung by triple digits every day, including one plunge of 634 points, after a downgrade of the U.S. debt rating.

NEW YORK - The stock market ended higher Thursday after flipping between small gains and losses throughout the morning. Uncertainty about the fiscal cliff was top of the mind for many traders. The Republican-controlled House pushed ahead with a bill aimed at averting the fiscal cliff, but President Obama has threatened to veto it and Democratic leaders in the Senate vowed to let it die. Many traders now expect that the Republicans and Democrats will not reach an agreement before Christmas.

THE GAP BETWEEN the 1 percent and 99 percent is also on the minds of Europeans, if the engrossing "Sister" is any measure of things. Ursula Meier's new movie introduces us to a poor and virtually orphaned French boy named Simon (Kacey Mottet Klein) living in the Swiss alps, where he makes a daily trip from a shabby valley apartment to the alpine ski resort where he steals expensive equipment from the swells above the clouds. Little Simon is the kind of kid you intuitively like - a thief, yes, but a hardworking one, stealing equipment to order, remodeling the "merchandise" to give a lived-in look that makes the stuff more marketable to his cash-strapped friends.

JUST HOW MANY "a cappella" puns can you fit into a movie that runs just under two hours? A-ca lot. "Pitch Perfect" does for a cappella (making music with mouths, as we're constantly reminded) what "Bring It On" did for cheerleading. An eyeliner-imbued alterna-chick (this time, it's Beca, played "Up in the Air's" Anna Kendrick) is thrust into a world she deems lame and gradually learns to love it, while the girls she surrounds herself with teach her life lessons that allow her to grow as a person.

This year's induction ceremony into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland turned into a raucous five-hour jam on Saturday night, highlighted by the reunion of Guns N' Roses. Well, most of the band, anyway. Guess who didn't show up for the gig? Wall of flame front man Axl Rose. In his induction speech, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day praised the talents of the various band members, including Slash's guitar wizardry and Steve Adler's savage drumming. "Let's see, who am I missing?"

RARELY HAS THERE been a more out-of-nowhere hit than "Taken," which opened in the traditional dumping ground of February, then racked up a fat $100 million. An underserved demo suffering major action-star withdrawal suddenly found one in the unlikely form of hulking Liam Neeson, a refugee from respectable movies, and there is no doubt that part of the kick of "Taken" was seeing Oskar Schindler, Alfred Kinsey and Ethan Frome beating the tar out of people - all under the nimble direction of French action genius Pierre Morel.
