The agent for center Jamaal Jackson expects the veteran Eagle to be released once the NFL's new league year begins in March. "It would surprise me greatly if they did not release him," said Jackson's agent, J.R. Rickert. "But that's a team decision. " Jackson is the longest-tenured Eagle, having joined the team in 2003 as an undrafted free agent, and he started every game in 2006, 2007, and 2008 and the first 15 of 2009 before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee at the end of that season.

For months, the question surrounding the Eagles has been: Will Juan Castillo be back? But what about one that hasn't been asked but maybe should: Will Howard Mudd be back? If Mudd doesn't return as the Eagles' offensive line coach it will be for much different reasons from those that likely would lead to Castillo's departure as defensive coordinator. Mudd, who turns 70 in February, could decide that he wants to retire. He's done it once before. But last February, Eagles coach Andy Reid persuaded Mudd to come out of retirement - with one caveat.

Asante Samuel waved his arms, urging on the cheers, and Eagles fans responded. An entire section rose and roared as the Eagles put the finishing touches on a win. The problem was, the green-clad fans were sitting in orange seats under the sunny Miami sky, not the early-winter gray of Philadelphia. Eagles fans have had little to cheer at Lincoln Financial Field this season, where the home team is 1-5 and will try to break a three-game Philly losing streak Sunday against the Jets.

Things to look for when the Eagles visit the Dolphins on Sunday.   Red zone The Eagles are dead last in the NFL with eight turnovers in the red zone, which certainly hasn't helped their overall red-zone efficiency ranking. In all, the Eagles have converted just 47 percent of their red-zone possessions into touchdowns, which ranks them 21st in the league. The Dolphins won't make improving that percentage any easier. Miami has allowed touchdowns on only 37 percent of opponents' trips inside its own 20.   Real McCoy LeSean McCoy's rushing numbers have tailed off over the last few weeks - mostly not his fault - but he still has a couple of franchise records within his sights.

METS SHORTSTOP Jose Reyes , now a free agent, was spotted at the Continental (2nd & Market) Tuesday, which fueled rumors that he was meeting with the Phillies. The team says it is not interested in Reyes, despite several sources telling us that there was some type of meeting between them. But we can tell you that the married Reyes visited his daughter and baby mama, a Daily News Sexy Single, while in town. Ay. Dios mio! Bam 'Unstable'? EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is just one player on a defense that has been truly wretched this season. So there have been plenty of targets at which to sling arrows. Still, you have to wonder if the absence of the cornerback, who was out with a high ankle sprain, had anything to do with the strong outing by the defense in the first half Sunday night? With Joselio Hanson taking Rodgers-Cromartie's spot as the fifth cornerback, the Giants pass offense sputtered.

Shortly after Andy Reid announced that Jeremy Maclin would miss Wednesday's practice, the Eagles announced that Chad Hall was signed off the practice squad. Just because both are receivers it shouldn't be assumed that Maclin, who has both a shoulder strain and a hamstring strain, won't be ready for Sunday's game against the New York Giants, although Maclin's availability is in question. But it was likely a move made for insurance and one made to improve the Eagles' return game.

The season is a wreck. The question now for the Eagles is how far the rot spreads. With any realistic hope for a playoff berth gone, does Andy Reid still have the command of his locker room to salvage a reasonable record? Does his collection of young talent and veteran free agents have the pride to do so? The answers may determine whether Reid returns in 2012. "It's easy when you have a record of 3-6 to go your separate way," tight end Brent Celek said after Sunday's loss.
