Justin Bieber does not smile. During the Purpose World Tour on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center, the 22-year-old Canadian pop star wavered between a hardened stare and a blank expression as he bounced, flipped, and falsetto-ed his way through a two-hour spectacle. It was difficult to determine whether the constant shrill screams of the mostly female crowd were in support of this newfound stoicism or a cry to let loose and take his shirt off. Either way, Bieber commanded their attention and delivered a set that both baffled and entertained.

Sheen v. Rossi: The full story Charlie Sheen 's ex-fiancée, porn star Scottine Ross or Brett Rossi , 26, has taken out an emergency order of protection against him, days after a recording surfaced in which he allegedly threatens to have her killed by a hit man. Her lawyer, David Ring , tells USA Today the police see the tape "as an important piece of evidence" in their criminal investigation of Sheen. "It's not just his typical bluster," says Ring. "I heard [the tape], and it's legitimate.

If Oscar hosting has turned into an Olympic sport, we should blame Billy Crystal, the nine-time host who set the bar so high he failed to clear it himself when he returned in 2012 after Eddie Murphy backed out. Here, ranked from best to worst, are other recent hosts Chris Rock will be measured against Sunday. Ellen DeGeneres Hosted: 2007 and 2014. How she did: Better the second time, breaking the Internet with a selfie with some of the world's biggest stars. Hugh Jackman Hosted: 2009.

11.22.63. Monday, Hulu. His character in Hulu's new Stephen King series 11.22.63 is a time-traveler, but James Franco is in no hurry himself to take leave of the 21st century. "There are great things about the past, and there are horrible things about the past. I was probably born in the right time," Franco told a small group of reporters last month after a Hulu news conference. He's probably right. It's hard to imagine a movie star in the early '60s — where Franco's Jake Epping goes in 11.22.63 to try to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy — would have made the kind of career choices the 37-year-old Franco occasionally has, including a longtime recurring role on the daytime soap General Hospital, and the recent agreement to remake the 1996 Tori Spelling movie Mother, May I Sleep with Danger for Lifetime.

James Franco gets a shave and a haircut and sets out to save John F. Kennedy from an assassin's bullet in Stephen King's time-travel drama 11.22.63 , starting Monday on Hulu. Yes, Hulu. Maybe someday a TV network will green-light a show in which one of its suits goes back in time to strangle streaming technology in its cradle, but until then a certain amount of confusion reigns. The online service owned by Disney-ABC, Fox, and Comcast's NBCUniversal continues to ramp up production on original series meant to help it compete with Netflix and Amazon, two other services that first bought TV reruns and out-of-the-theater movies and now compete with their sellers by making their own. CBS, meanwhile, has hired Bryan Fuller ( Hannibal , Pushing Daisies )

Cold enough for ya? More than our weather got chilly this weekend. The movies did, too. "Goosebumps," based on the semi-spooky kids' book series, went big at the box office, taking in $23.5 million in 3,501 theaters. The young-adult-appropriate horror movie froze out Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks with their Cold War-inspired "Bridge of Spies. " It skated past Matt Damon in Ridley Scott's "The Martian," and gave the cold shoulder to Guillermo del Toro's adult-level scary "Crimson Peak.

For years, Jason Segel has proved himself a reliably funny dude, a comic foil and sometimes-leading man in rom-coms, brom-coms, and a sitcom, too. Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You Man, The Five-Year Engagement, and nine seasons' worth of the CBS hit How I Met Your Mother - the guy's comedy cred is without question. But Segel, like comic actors before him (Bill Murray and Robin Williams, to name two), was itching to try something different, something with more heft, more meaning.

XOXO, Leighton Meester. What fan of your acting - especially enduring as Blair Waldorf on the long-running CW series "Gossip Girl" - wouldn't want to attend your musical coming-out party at the Trocadero tomorrow? (Details at thetroc.com .) "It's great if people are interested in seeing me, for whatever reason," Meester shared in a recent chat. "This isn't acting - it's the real me. The songs are autobiographical. This is my taste and my life. " Meester never sang on "GG," though a few of the tarty teen/dance pop ditties she recorded for Universal Records (circa 2009-11)

Bread and circuses: They make the world go round. Sure, things weren't so hot this year when it came to bread. But the circuses were as healthy as ever in 2014, thanks to a constant supply of silly, stupid, narcissistic, and sex-obsessed celebs. But this year, the usual round of frolicking, twerking, punch-ups, meltdowns, and arrests was punctuated by some of the darkest sex scandals in recent memory. Explosive allegations brought down cultural icons as respected and admired as Bill Cosby and as popular as Stephen Collins . So we begin with the abysmal and abyssal and try to work our way up to the merely absurd.
