XOXO, Leighton Meester. What fan of your acting - especially enduring as Blair Waldorf on the long-running CW series "Gossip Girl" - wouldn't want to attend your musical coming-out party at the Trocadero tomorrow? (Details at thetroc.com .) "It's great if people are interested in seeing me, for whatever reason," Meester shared in a recent chat. "This isn't acting - it's the real me. The songs are autobiographical. This is my taste and my life. " Meester never sang on "GG," though a few of the tarty teen/dance pop ditties she recorded for Universal Records (circa 2009-11)

Bread and circuses: They make the world go round. Sure, things weren't so hot this year when it came to bread. But the circuses were as healthy as ever in 2014, thanks to a constant supply of silly, stupid, narcissistic, and sex-obsessed celebs. But this year, the usual round of frolicking, twerking, punch-ups, meltdowns, and arrests was punctuated by some of the darkest sex scandals in recent memory. Explosive allegations brought down cultural icons as respected and admired as Bill Cosby and as popular as Stephen Collins . So we begin with the abysmal and abyssal and try to work our way up to the merely absurd.

Despite all the hoopla, beyond the international scandal, the cyberattack on movie studio Sony by (maybe) North Korean-sponsored hackers, and the 9/11-style attack threats, Seth Rogen's The Interview , a satirical political thriller about a plot to assassinate North Korea's dictator Kim Jong-un, is . . . crazy funny. Initially set to premiere on Christmas Day, The Interview , which stars James Franco as an American TV host tasked with assassinating Kim, was pulled by major theater chains following threats its screening would be met with terrorist attacks.

TALK ABOUT blurring the lines between real life and reel life. Sony Pictures, which is having a Month From Hell for the ages, has enlisted the help of the spin-mistress who was the inspiration for the ABC prime-time soaper "Scandal. " The company that produced (and won't release) "The Interview" has asked Judy Smith to help with damage control in the wake of the cyberattack it suffered (apparently at the hands of North Korea), and its subsequent decision to keep the Seth Rogen - James Franco comedy about killing North Korean Big Cheese Kim Jong Un from public display.

Good People is the cinematic equivalent of a page turner, a thriller that leaves no thriller trope unused, no melodramatic stone unturned, no foreshadowing unshadowed. Heck, it's even got bad guys driving a Jaguar - just as the TV commercials promise. But a good cast, some solid if gruesome action beats and a short running time mean we'll stick with it, turning those predictable pages right up to the grand predictable finale. James Franco and Kate Hudson are an American couple trying for a "fresh start" in London.

Werner Herzog has created some of the most indelible images in modern cinema: A riverboat being pulled over the side of a steep hill in the Amazon in Fitzcarraldo ; Klaus Kinski as the vampire Nosferatu, leaning over the sleeping body of Isabelle Adjani in Nosferatu the Vampyre ; the hapless conquistadors making their way down the Orinoco River in South America in Aguirre, the Wrath of God . The German filmmaker, who has directed more than...

IN "PINEAPPLE EXPRESS," Seth Rogen and James Franco angered a nasty drug lord and a corrupt policeman. With their upcoming movie "The Interview," due in October, they've ticked off Kim Jong Un . North Korea is warning that the release of the comedy about a plot to kill the country's dictator would be an "act of war. " If the U.S. government doesn't block the movie's release, it will face "stern" and "merciless" retaliation, an...

THE MONSTERS smashing San Francisco in "Godzilla" may be too late in the view of "Palo Alto," a teen-POV profile of a community wrecked from within. In this movie, lax and/or abusive parenting has created a listless generation of teens adrift and unsupervised, stumbling in some cases toward grace, but mostly stumbling. To which the parents of Palo Alto may well ask: Says who? Says James Franco, who grew up there, and wrote a series of semiautobiographical short stories about his formative years, woven together here by Gia Coppola, third-generation director from the family of film and winemakers.

NEW YORK - Here's an odd bit of trivia about Lehigh Valley-born Dane DeHaan : Thus far in his relatively brief career, the 28-year-old actor has had two major screen roles previously owned by James Franco . One is Harry Osborn - a.k.a. Green Goblin - the troubled scion of the founder of the sinister global conglom Oscorp, and Peter Parker's friend-turned-foe. DeHaan plays Harry in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 , which opened everywhere this weekend. Back in the aughts, Franco was Harry in the three Sam Raimi -directed Spider-Mans starring Tobey Maguire . In 2001, a year before the first Spider-Man , Franco portrayed James Dean in a much-lauded TV biography.

James Franco apologizes We were hoping it was a hoax: some nasty hacker. But it seems James Franco , 35, the greatest renaissance man since, like, the Renaissance, did in fact try to arrange a romantic rendezvous with a 17-year-old girl. Scottish tourist Lucy Clode , 17, met Franco briefly outside his Broadway show Of Mice and Men . They began exchanging Instagrams. Franco sent her a (clothed) selfie, then volunteered to stop by - his base desires in tow, no doubt - at Clode's hotel room.
