Friday was a time of reunions of sorts for the Union. On the day forward Sebastien Le Toux was introduced to reporters after being acquired Thursday from the New York Red Bulls, the Union announced the acquisition of Jeff Parke, a defender from the Seattle Sounders and former area high school and college standout. Parke, who turns 31 in March, started 77 games over the last three years for Seattle. He is a former standout at Downingtown West High, where he was a member of two state title teams before competing at Drexel.

ZAC MACMATH pitched the shutout and the Union earned its first-ever point on the road against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. The scoreless tie moved the Union to 10-7-8. New York is 11-8-6. "[This game] does wonders for our team," said MacMath, who made three saves for his ninth shutout this season. The Union traded central defender Jeff Parke, who starred at Downingtown West and Drexel, after his lone year with the club. Parke, 31, who made 31 starts, was sent Tuesday to D.C. United for defender Ethan White. The Union also received United's No. 1 ranking in the Major League Soccer allocation order, and United got the Union's No. 6 allocation ranking. The allocation process is for players who come to MLS outside the SuperDraft, who are not "discovered," or who are not designated players, according to Todd Durbin, MLS executive vice president of player relations and competition.

Jeff Parke may play on the other side of the country but he still calls Philadelphia home. Parke, a Drexel alum and a graduate of Downingtown High, "when it was still Downingtown" joined the Sounders on May 15 after an dispute regarding contract terms. The defender inked a 1-year deal with a 2-year option worth $100,000 in guaranteed compensation, after holding out for a better deal than Seattle initially proposed. "It's been a long road with the whole contract thing, but that's all cleared up and I am just excited to be apart of this team," said Parke, 28. "It was difficult, but I wanted to make sure I was setting myself up for the next few years.

FOR ETHAN WHITE, the tightness he felt in his left hamstring early in the second half of Saturday's draw signified a case of poor timing. His presence in the central defense has been a constant throughout the Union's recent string of success and only five games remain in the race for a playoff spot. On top of that, tomorrow's game comes against his former team in the MLS stadium closest to where he grew up. The injury leaves White only questionable to play in the crucial rivalry clash with first-place D.C. United, though as of Wednesday, when interim manager Jim Curtin last addressed the media, the coach was "cautiously optimistic" the center back would be available for selection at RFK Stadium.

When Steve Neumann went from Council Rock North to Georgetown University to play soccer, he never thought that this day would come. Or at least not come with his being such a prominent part of it. The Georgetown midfielder is coming home and will be one of the intriguing story lines of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The first two rounds of the draft will be conducted Thursday at the Convention Center. (Rounds 3 and 4 will be Tuesday via conference call.) Neumann is projected by Topdrawersoccer.com and many others to be the No. 6 pick in the draft.

While each of the seven final Major League Soccer games for the Union take on a high degree of urgency, they really enter a dangerous situation Sunday when visiting the San Jose Earthquakes. That's because the Union will face a team seemingly in a more desperate situation than they are. Five teams in both the Eastern and Western Conference will make the playoffs. The Union begin the weekend in a deceptive fourth place in the East, just two points ahead of the teams tied for fifth, New England and Houston.

Perception isn't always reality, but the two matched up rather well during the Union's 10-18-6 season in 2012. As the record suggests, not much went right, and the Union weren't held in high esteem by Major League Soccer opponents. This year is different. The Union are 7-5-4 heading into Saturday's 5:30 p.m. matchup at PPL Park against a dangerous FC Dallas team that is 8-3-5. Somebody who had an outside perspective on the Union last year is defender Jeff Parke, who was acquired from Seattle in the offseason.
