* LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON. 12:35 a.m. weekdays, NBC10. J immy Fallon is a thankful guy. His Friday night "thank-you notes" are a staple of NBC's "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," but the gratitude's more than a running gag. On a recent pass through Philadelphia, where the NBC "Late Night" host schmoozed everyone from anchors to advertisers at NBC10's City Avenue studios before stopping at Dalessandro's, in Roxborough, to pick up...

New Jersey Gov. Christie said, "No chance," when asked Tuesday if he was going to run for president during an appearance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. " Christie's popularity among Republicans nationwide has soared in recent months and he toured the country helping GOP candidates in the recent election. Fallon's show is taped in Manhattan early in the evening, but Christie didn't appear on TV screens until almost 1:30 a.m. EST - long after Jessica Simpson and Fallon played a dopey, ringtoss version of tic-tac-toe - but perhaps YouTube can help spread Christie's turn on Fallon's stage.

Felicitations were flowing like so much manna when Jimmy Fallon and Nancy Juvonen Fallon announced they had welcomed into their fold baby daughter Winnie Rose Fallon . On Friday, Fallon dropped a little bombshell: Winnie was born to a surrogate. "It wasn't really a secret, but my wife and I had been trying for a while to have a baby," Fallon told Today 's Savannah Guthrie . "We've tried a bunch of different things, so we had a surrogate. " Most of Fallon's colleagues didn't even know he was expecting a baby - his wife didn't look pregnant, after all. "We said, 'We're not going to tell anybody,' " Fallon said.

IF YOU WATCHED the end of "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, you saw Jimmy Fallon (returning to his old stomping grounds as host of "The Barry Gibb Talk Show") holding up a diploma. It took him long enough, but Saturday Fallon became a college graduate, 14 years after he left the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y., one semester short of graduation, to pursue his career. In picking up his degree in communications - a good major for a talk-show host - Fallon also spoke to fellow grads.

Late-night TV's nice men Everyone has heard about the David Letterman - Jay Leno feud of yore. The late-night talk-show scene is no less competitive, but the boys (and, invariably, they all are boys) in the game today aren't combative, says Jimmy Fallon . They're into mentoring each other, not feuding. Jimmy Kimmel "was great to me - when I came on he was very supportive," Fallon tells Billboard. MONDAY'S musical Walk of Fame Gala at the Philly Fillmore just got A-list-ier. The event will induct local musicians who've made the big-time. Few - OK, pretty much none - spent their entire careers in the 215. Most, however, remain alive and even relevant. But only one group will receive honor from "The Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon . Before you guess who it is, you already know who it is. The Roots , led by Black Thought and Questlove - whom Temp Tattle prefers to refer to as Tariq and Ahmir-Khalib, because she likes feeling old - will be on the arty avenue Monday at 11 a.m. to get their sidewalk plaques, then ride back up to New York to tape the show with Fallon, and then ride back down here for the swank shindig.

Taking over TV's most storied franchise, NBC's The Tonight Show , will be a breeze for Jimmy Fallon. On Monday at midnight, he's just moving across the hallway from Studio 6A to 6B and getting a lot of extra perks. (Beginning on Friday, the show will move back to its normal 11:35 p.m. slot.) The hard part came in 2009, when he was handed Late Night . Here he was, a Saturday Night Live expat coming off a dismal string of films, a guy with no hosting experience and a case of nerves so bad it was setting off seismographic monitors up in Canada.

In TV's constantly shifting landscape, there was one thing you could always count on: NBC owned the antipodes. For decades, the America day started with Today and ended with Tonight. NBC was the house that Dave Garroway and Jack Paar built. This programming Chinese finger trap benefited NBC's entire schedule. Who knows how many millions of people sat through vapid shows like Chico and the Man and Caroline in the City simply because they were too lazy to change the channel?

K ESHA vs. Dr. Luke has been going on longer than the presidential election - basically since the time of the caveman. Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, more than 18 months after she first filed charges against Luke, Kesha has dropped her case in Los Angeles. But only in Los Angeles. That's where the sexual-abuse case was filed. Her record-label contract battle goes on. "My fight continues," Kesha wrote on Facebook. "I need to get my music out. I have so much to say. This lawsuit is so heavy on my once free spirit, and I can only pray to one day feel that happiness again.

The Roots and Common have come a long way since 1997. That's when Philly's sons of hip-hop began working with Common, the socially conscious MC from Chicago, on a series of jazzy rap manifestos and collaborations. That includes the Roots' Things Fall Apart of 1999 and Common's 2000 release , Like Water for Chocolate , seminal albums that established the two acts as arbiters of adventurous sound. Now both are part of the pop-cultural firmament - ambassadors, even - the Roots as the house band of late-night TV's highest-rated program, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon , the other an Academy Award-decorated composer/performer for his work on the 2014 film Selma . It was fascinating, then, to watch the Roots and Common do an old-fashioned joint throw-down at Atlantic City's Borgata Casino on Sunday.

In a Tonight Show appearance this year, magician Dan White handed Jimmy Fallon a gift box. He asked the host to throw a ball into the audience and have the catcher call out a number between one and 60. Fallon threw the ball to five other random audience members and wrote their six numbers on a chalkboard. Then Fallon opened his box - to find a Powerball ticket with the same six numbers written on the chalkboard. White defines success by the oohs, ahhhs, and how-did-he-do-its?
