Greatest romance ends If I were Katy Perry I'd, like, never, ever leave John Mayer , dude! But it seems she has. Or did he leave her? Nah, she dumped him, says E!News, for reasons that remain unexplained. (Could affairs of the celeb heart ever be anything but ineffable?) People at People are skeptical. "She was talking about him like everything was normal about two weeks back," a Perry Pal tells the mag. Fact, just a week ago there was word they'd become engaged.

Everyone knows John Mayer is a fine guitarist who worships at the altar of bluesy rock gods Hendrix and Clapton. And that he's a wry wounded lover man, what with his raspy voice and rapier hurt smarts. That's serious stuff. But the entire time Mayer held sway over the sold-out Tweeter Center in Camden on Saturday, you just wanted to pinch his cheeks - he's so darned cute. The wavy curls, the faces he pulls while emoting, that gangly demeanor; this reviewer is straight but I can see why Jessica Simpson fell for him. From the moment Mayer introduced "Neon"'s bruised romance and jazzy bridge with a coolly plinking guitar run and a frazzled horn chart, you suspected Mayer was up to something different than his usual.

John Mayer, who first gained attention more than a decade ago with "Your Body Is a Wonderland," brought a very different theme park to the Susquehanna in Camden on Friday night. It was an entertaining carnivale of jam band workouts, country and western campfire songs and pop craftsmanship. The two-and-a-half hour show was neither as the sedate nor old-timey as his two most recent albums - 2012s Born and Raised and Paradise Valley which was released this week - would suggest.

Both his parents were educators, mom Margaret an English teacher, dad Richard , a high school principal. So it's no wonder John Mayer , 33, is such a great pedagogue. The New York Post says the "Heartbreak Warfare" singer recently dispensed sage advice to a female fan he encountered in New York's Wicker Park. "He said that she was going to make someone very happy one day," Anonymous Source tells the Post, "as long as she remembered to talk dirty while having sex. " Oprah Winfrey, U.S. ambassador . . . No, she hasn't been asked by the White House to assume a diplomatic assignment, but Oprah Winfrey would be a natural for the job - so Colin Powell once told the New Age guru.

John Mayer is a howling wolf in lamb's clothing. He first got attention as a sensitive strummer, but all the guy really wants to do is shred. And there were plenty of guitar pyrotechnics during his concert at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden on Thursday night, a show so overstuffed and energetic, it was reminiscent of a Springsteen barn burner. Mayer took the stage in a black sleeveless Purple Rain T-shirt that showed off his heavily tattooed arms, tearing off a searing solo to lead into "Belief.

Considering he's such an obviously talented musician, it's startling just how tone deaf John Mayer can be. Does he realize how extraordinarily stupid the words that come out of his mouth actually sound? The evidence of the 32-year-old guitarist's impressive musicianship could be heard throughout his two-hour show at the Wachovia Center on Sunday night. Sure, his songwriting tends towards the blandly vanilla, and while the former Berklee College of Music student is a more than competent vocalist, his singing lacks the requisite character of an artist who at least partly aspires to be a legitimate bluesman.

IF THE MUSIC of Billy Joel , ABBA , Green Day , the Four Seasons and Carole King could headline a Broadway show, why not John Mayer ? For one thing, they had hits. But that's not stopping music's raspy-voiced Romeo from trying to write a show. ANOTHER DAY, another beautiful couple bites the dust. Katy Perry and John Mayer have split up again. E! News (a sort of oxymoron) says the pair parted ways over the past few days. There are no other details, alas, so we'll speculate: Did their hectic schedules drive a wedge between them? Did they fall in love too hard, too fast and burn out like a firework? Did Katy finally tire of John's whiny warbling? Did Katy like kissing Miley Cyrus a little too much? And to think, it wasn't long ago when the gossip mags were excited about a Katy/John engagement.

"MASTERCHEF" contestant Krissi Biasiello , a 34-year-old paralegal from Philadelphia, apologized on Twitter on Monday night for her racist social-media postings, which I reported last week on phillydailynews.com. Biasiello tweeted, "I'm very sorry for any offensive posts I've made on social media. It was never my intention to hurt or offend anyone and I deeply apologize. " Is it just me or is that a terrible excuse for a public-relations-crafted apology? On her personal account, which has since been deleted, Biasiello had tweeted things such as, "why do the 76ers keep coming up in my who to follow.

"I just want to be liked, I just want to be funny," John Mayer sang in "My Stupid Mouth," at the Tweeter Center on Saturday night, with unintentional irony. Playing to a sold-out crowd of around 25,000, Mayer was adored, especially by the young women screaming "I love you, John. " Mayer's songs, on the other hand, are eminently likable: He possesses a pleasantly deep baritone and a boyish falsetto, and he writes easygoing acoustic pop that's full of sentimental nostalgia and eager romance.

Kat Mittman Kobak planned to design jewelry for this year's Grammy Awards attendees by personalizing her signature silver, sparkling, beaded choker. But then, three days before the pieces were to be shipped off, Kobak's publicist got the names of exactly who would be getting Kat Designs baubles: Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Miranda Lambert, and John Mayer. The dainty necklaces with edgy panther and arrowhead charms weren't quite right anymore - especially now that Mayer was in the mix. Kobak would have to start from scratch.

For two years, Philadelphia had the Budweiser Made in America festival all to itself. Last month, however, it was announced that the Jay Z-curated fest would go bicoastal in 2014, taking place both here and in Los Angeles on Labor Day weekend (Aug. 30-31). Whatever agita that news created - was Made in America going Hollywood? Would the Left Coast take all the best acts? - calmed down Thursday when it was announced that Kanye West will headline MIA in Philadelphia. West, the most polarizing - and one of the most talented - figures in pop music, guarantees that MIA will be anything but dull.

Way more than just dating Let's get something straight: Katy Perry and John Mayer aren't merely hooking up. They're not dating. They are courting . Katy, 29, tells Entertainment Weekly that the duo went public as a couple only after a "long courtship. " Katy, whose CD Prism debuted this week at No. 1, spells it out in an in-depth chat. "We had a long courtship before anything was [public], just writing letters to each other," she says. Katy says he touched her so deeply that he inspired her soulful love song "Legendary Lovers.

Bay attacked on movie set In a bizarre incident straight out of a mob film, director Michael Bay was attacked Thursday by two brothers on the Hong Kong set of his new picture, Transformers 4: The Age of Extinction . Reportedly, the two hoods hit Bay after he refused to pay them $12,900 in protection money. USA Today says Bay, 48, had injuries to the right side of his face but declined medical attention. The brothers have been arrested on charges of assault and blackmail.

Michael Douglas ' first marriage, to Diandra Luker , ended after 23 years (and cost him $45 mil). His second, with fellow A-list power player Catherine Zeta-Jones , 43, seems to be falling apart after 13. The stars are "taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage," a rep on Wednesday told Us Weekly. Yet sources say they've been living apart since May. The couple, who have two kids, Dylan , 13, and Carys , 10, have valiantly supported each other through dark times: When Michael, 68, was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, and this year when his wife struggled with bipolar disorder.
