LAST YEAR, Cleveland's Josh Gordon was the Lamborghini of wide receivers. Led the league in receiving yards despite having Moe, Larry and Hoyer as his quarterbacks. Posted consecutive 200-yard games, something no one had ever done. This year, the Lamborghini has some rust on it. It has to. Gordon was suspended the first 10 games for repeated drug violations - which also dogged him in college - and watched as the Browns somehow put together a respectable 6-4 record. It's a mark that would have been better except for two puzzling losses to the bad Jaguars and undermanned Texans by a combined 47-13.

Papa always told me "life ain't fair. " That was usually right after he stole my last French fry, or reneged on his promise to take me on a blimp ride after I finally made it through a semester of elementary school without an "N" (not satisfactory) on my self-discipline grade. Indeed, life could be cruel growing up on the mean streets of Coral Gables, Fla. But it steeled me for the many trials I've confronted later in life. Like now, when I compete in three fantasy leagues without Peyton Manning on my side.

HOUSTON - Andre Johnson had the game of his life to save the Houston Texans on Sunday. Johnson finished off a career day by turning a screen pass from Matt Schaub into a 48-yard sprint for the winning touchdown in overtime as the Texans rallied to beat Jacksonville, 43-37. "All the good teams find a way to win, no matter if it's ugly, pretty or whatever," Johnson said. "In the win column, it either says 'W' or 'L.' They don't ask how you got it done. " Schaub threw a career-high five TD passes, completed a franchise-record 43 passes and finished with 527 yards in the air, second most in NFL history.

No. " Police arrested Bryant on July 16, 2 days after his mother, Angela Bryant, called 911 to complain her son was assaulting her. Authorities said they found her with a swollen wrist and thumb and bruising on her upper arms.

Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson announced her retirement Sunday, saying repeated setbacks with her left knee made contending for a spot on the U.S. gymnastics team for the London Games impossible, and left her fearful for her long-term health. "It just little by little gets worse and worse," Johnson told the Associated Press. "My body is to the point where I need time to rest so I can be healthy for the rest of my life. It's hard to wrap my mind around. Gymnastics has been my entire life, and now it's no more.

Top Wide Receiver Prospects JUSTIN BLACKMON, OKLA. STATE He's not as explosive as teams might like, but who cares? He's a ball-catcher and pulls in nearly everything tossed in his direction. Blackmon will definitely go in the top 10. KENDALL WRIGHT, BAYLOR A 4.6-second 40-yard dash at the combine didn't seem to match his game film. But he has an assortment of moves off the line, has great in-air body control, and makes up for his lack of size (5-10, 196) with impressive athleticism.

You can never have too many good wide receivers. You can't in the modern era of the NFL with the league nearing a 60-40 balance in favor of the pass. So while the Eagles would appear to be set at the position and not in the market for a first-round talent, if Justin Blackmon or Michael Floyd were to fall to them at No. 15 you can bet your Jeremy Maclin jersey that Andy Reid will snap up either one. Taking a receiver with the top pick in this year's draft - which opens with the first round Thursday - would not make sense for the Eagles if they were looking to address their most significant holes from a season ago. That would be on defense at linebacker, safety, and defensive tackle - and, sure, why not, cornerback, too. But the Eagles have been hammering the mantra of taking the best available player for months, and again, if Blackmon or Floyd is there, you have to take him. Judging by some mock drafts, neither will be available.
