LeAnn Rimes rules! The 15-year-old Texan made her entrance at the Apollo of Temple on Saturday night on a riser that lifted her above a multi-staircased stage, as she sang the title song from the due-in-May first of two albums she'll release this year: "Sittin' on Top of the World. " That she is. Last year, while the Dallas teen's peers were in angst over acne and algebra, she was outpacing Puff Daddy as the biggest- selling pop artist of 1997. And judging from the three-quarters-full crowd at what was likely North Philadelphia's first-ever C&W show, her good-girl image has roped in country fans ranging from 8 to 80. But Rimes has no plans to stop there.

He led all artists with 12 nominations, but Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, the songwriter and producer whose fingerprints were on many of the biggest hits of 1996, walked away from the 39th annual Grammy Awards with only three prizes last night. The ultra-smooth Edmonds was voted producer of the year and shared record-of-the-year honors with Eric Clapton for the guitarist's "Change the World. The animated adventure Rise of the Guardians , with a buffed-up Santa and other mythical figures as superheroes, put $10.5 million in Paramount's bank account. There's too much money at stake to expect LeAnn Rimes' handlers to slow her down. Though Sittin' on Top of the World, the 15-year-old phenom's fourth album in two years, has little going for it, its title can't be disputed: Rimes was the biggest-selling individual artist in America last year. As she ascends to unparalleled commercial heights, however, Rimes is bottoming out artistically. As bad as You Light Up My Life, her collection of "inspirational songs," was last year, Top is worse.

News comes in all shapes and sizes. There's vacuous fluff (see below), breaking crime stories, urgent disaster reports. Then there's Beyoncé news. That, above all, is vital news. Important news. And news you can use to better yourself. Numerous media sources are reporting that Jay Z 's wife and Blue Ivy 's mom has sheared her hair, those hip-hop-flavored Rapunzel tresses (and skillfully deployed extensions) we've grown to love. B posted an Instagram pic late Wednesday night that showed her with a short - very, very short - blond pixie cut.   Usher: Usher V is recovering "I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering," says megastar singer Usher , whose son nearly drowned in a pool on Monday.

It's one of TV's unlikelier success stories. Brooke Elliott was a stage trouper, performing in the national tours of musicals such as Wicked and Beauty and the Beast . Then her agent told her about a prospective Lifetime series, Drop Dead Diva , that might suit her. "I had a Broadway show audition that day, too," Elliott says. "I thought, 'Oh well, maybe I'll get the play. I don't have a shot at the TV show.' " To her astonishment, she got the part - a role that requires some explanation.
