The Catholic kids here enjoy shooting hoops right after Sunday Mass, without having to leave the room. But the Rev. Tony Cummins doesn't think it's right to lead prayers in a gym. "It's not a fitting place to have sacred worship, to help lift people out of their daily activities and bring them into contact with God," he complained. "But presently we're being denied a place where we all can gather. I mean a church. " Father Tony, as he is sometimes called, does have a 1923 church, St. Peter's, and a $1.4 million plan to knock down part of its limestone walls and construct a 750-seat sanctuary.
