MARIAH CAREY has bid adieu to the Connecticut hospital where she had been staying since her "emotional and physical breakdown. " "MC is feeling better," Carey's rep Cindi Berger told the New York Daily News. That's the first we've heard of Mariah's J.Lo-type of moniker. "She's resting under a doctor's care at an undisclosed location with her mother," Berger said. A family friend told the New York Daily News that MC slipped out of Silver Hill in Connecticut Tuesday to avoid (like the plague)

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF. — Mariah Carey has landed a seat in the latest game of musical chairs at Fox's "American Idol. " And what a seat it is. The opportunity to sit next to Randy Jackson and a Player To Be Named Later and to say kind or cutting things to young men and women who may or may not be able to sing is expected to bring the pop diva at least a bit more than the $12 million the now officially departing Jennifer Lopez was paid in...

The little indie "Tennessee" squeezes super-celeb diva Mariah Carey into the humble role of Texas truck stop waitress. It's a fairly meaty role (pardon the pun - she added weight for the part) and Carey does some surprisingly subtle work. She doesn't pick up a guitar and croon until the end of the movie, and even then, it's not the same gal you saw in "Glitter. " Carey plays Krystal, stuck in a dead-end job and oppressive marriage, who decides to skip town with a couple of brothers on their way to Nashville, where she'd like to start over as a singer.

Adele: Back off, candidates! It doesn't matter if you're conservative or liberal. As far as Adele is concerned, neither side in the American presidential race has a right to use her music. "Adele has not given permission for her music to be used for any political campaigning," the mega-selling singer's rep, Benny Tarantini , said Monday in a statement. The British warbler was reportedly miffed that GOP front-runner Donald Trump had used snippets from "Rolling in the Deep" and "Skyfall" at recent rallies.

A lot of people got drunk on election night, some in glee, some in despair. And some only seemed drunk. Which was it, we at "SideShow" wonder, with Diane Sawyer , longtime ABC anchor? She seemed, shall we say, lit from within Tuesday night as she cohosted election coverage with George Stephanopoulos . Her speech was slurred ("President Barack Ora - Barack Obama "), she wandered, seemed on the verge of giggling, and she kept leaning forward on her arms like a stevedore calling for a double Rusty Nail and make it quick . Twitter, with customary lack of mercy, exploded.

TATTLE interviewed Angelina Jolie a few years ago when she was promoting the movie "Salt," and we were surprised by how normal she was - friendly, engaged, humble, interesting - when not being hounded by paparazzi. Granted, she's an actress, so she could have been merely acting all those things (which is still preferable to the behavior of some of her contemporaries), but for someone who's had so much drama reported about her life (not including her legitimate health-scare drama)

OSCAR nominations arrived with a hashtag yesterday. #OscarsSoWhite spent the day circling the Twitterverse, inciting snarky-to- angry commentary from media socialites both small and large over the dearth of African-American nominees, particularly in the director and actor categories. No surprise, though, that Hollywood itself stayed silent. Silent, save cinematographer Dick Pope . At the very least, he was on hand to respond to Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone 's unfortunate mispronunciation of his name.
