MONTREAL linemates Erik Cole and Max Pacioretty scored two goals each as the Canadiens snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-2, Wednesday night. Before the game, the Canadiens announced starting goalie Carey Price has a mild concussion and will miss the rest of the season. He has been having headaches since teammate David Desharnais landed on him during a drill in practice last week.   In another game *  At St. Louis, Johan Franzen scored on consecutive shots in the third period and Todd Bertuzzi netted the lone goal in a shootout as the Detroit Red Wings rallied to beat the St. Louis Blues, 3-2. Pavel Datsyuk set up both regulation goals for the Red Wings, who moved a point ahead of Nashville for fourth in the Western Conference with 101 points.

Ilya Kovalchuk and David Clarkson scored less than two minutes apart in the second period as the New Jersey Devils beat the host Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-1, on Sunday night for their fifth straight win. Clarkson's power-play goal at 13 minutes, 20 seconds of the second period was his second of the game and ninth of the season. Elsewhere: Carl Hagelin had two goals in the New York Rangers' 5-1 victory over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning. . . . Patrice Bergeron scored the go-ahead goal on a third-period power play to lead the visiting Boston Bruins to a 3-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

BRENDAN Gallagher, Max Pacioretty and Brian Gionta scored third-period goals in the visiting Montreal Canadiens' 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. Gallagher scored his sixth of the season 9:08 into the third to break a 2-2 tie. Pacioretty cemented the win with his sixth goal - and second of the game - at 14:26. Gionta added an empty-net tally with 2:26 left. Pacioretty also scored in the second, and defenseman Alexei Emelin got Montreal on the board in the first period.

DAVID DESHARNAIS had two goals and an assist, and the Montreal Canadiens ended visiting Detroit's seven-game winning streak with a 7-2 victory over the Red Wings last night. Alexei Emelin scored his first NHL goal, and Montreal scored four times in the opening period against goalie Jimmy Howard, who will make his first NHL All-Star Game appearance on Sunday in Ottawa. The Canadiens then put their first two shots of the second period past backup goalie Ty Conklin, who took over for Howard to begin the period.

Both Washington and Carolina made coaching changes on Monday. The Capitals fired Bruce Boudreau and named former all-star Dale Hunter, who has never been a coach on any level; the Panthers fired Paul Maurice and named former all-star Kirk Muller. Hunter does have serious bona fides as a player, though, particularly in Washington, where he played from 1987-99 and was a captain. He is one of only four Capitals whose jersey number is retired, which is why a 15-by-25-foot banner of Hunter wearing his red No. 32 was hanging on a wall behind one end of the ice while he led his team through practice.

Canucks extend lead in West The Vancouver Canucks defeated the host Detroit Red Wings, 2-1, on Wednesday behind two goals from Daniel Sedin and 39 saves by Roberto Luongo. The Canucks have 105 points to lead the Western Conference and are 10 ahead of second-place Detroit. The Canucks also lead the NHL, eight points ahead of the Eastern Conference-leading Flyers. Sedin has 40 goals on the season.   Looking for retribution? The Boston Bruins' Zdeno Chara said he didn't know if the Canadiens will try to get back at him for his hit that seriously injured Montreal forward Max Pacioretty.

Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp said coach Joel Quenneville has played a key role in the team's record-breaking start. The Blackhawks have at least one point in each of their first 19 games and will put that streak on the line Thursday night in St. Louis. Patrick Kane is among the league leaders with 10 goals and 14 assists. Goalie Corey Crawford has a terrific 1.50 goals-against average, and backup Ray Emery has won his eight starts. Defensemen Niklas Hjalmarsson and Brent Seabrook are near the top of the NHL in blocked shots.

Jacob Markstrom got his first NHL victory and Scottie Upshall scored 5:02 into the third period to help visiting Florida extend Montreal's losing streak to six with a 2-1 win over the Canadiens last night. Markstrom made 40 saves in his second career start. Tomas Fleischmann scored a power-play goal in the first for the Panthers, who won their second straight to improve to 5-3. Montreal fell to 1-5-2, continuing its worst start in 70 years. It is the deepest the Canadiens have gone into a season with only one win since 1941-42, when they got off to a 1-10-1 start that included a pair of losses to the Brooklyn Americans.

Dwayne Roloson made 33 saves and Vincent Lecavalier scored two goals as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins , 4-1, Thursday night. Brett Connolly and Steve Downie also scored for the Lightning. Pittsburgh got a third-period goal from Tyler Kennedy to avoid the shutout. It was the first game between the teams since Tampa Bay beat Pittsburgh during their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series last season. Roloson stopped an in-close shot by Steve Sullivan in the first.
