A MAN who fatally shot an Upper Darby barber in front of his customers, one of whom was a 4-year-old boy, was the boyfriend of the barber's ex, police said Thursday. Within 24 hours of the afternoon shooting, Sharif Wynn, 27, was charged with murder and related offenses in the shooting of Michael Turner, 35, at Modern Hair Designs on Copley Road about 2 p.m. Wednesday. Wynn entered the barbershop dressed in all black Muslim clothing, announced a robbery and told all six people in the shop to get on the floor, said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

I STARTED the week resolved to pick the Falcons, 5-0 at home this season, 12-1 over the past 2 years in their cozy dome. The Eagles have been both plucky and lucky in winning the past 2 weeks, and their injury list seems to be growing, not shrinking. They are due for a reality check. However, then I heard Matt Ryan was out, and Michael Turner might be, too. You look at the Falcons' recent work, other than a reasonably close loss at New Orleans, 35-27 on Nov. 2, not much impresses.

Police say one thing was evident almost immediately after a barber was gunned down execution-style in a shop near the 69th Street Terminal on Wednesday: The victim knew his killer. A day after the midafternoon shooting, which occurred in the presence of several patrons, including a 4-year-old boy, Upper Darby Township police arrested Sharif Wynn, 27, of the 5800 block of North Howard Street in Philadelphia, Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. Wynn was charged with the murder of Michael Turner, 35, also known as Michael Boone, whose last known address was the 7100 block of West Chester Pike, Upper Darby.

Recent history: The Eagles defeated the Falcons at the Linc last season, 31-17, and lead the series, 17-11-1. OFFENSE Eagles 403 yards per game (7th) Falcons 386 yards per game (11th) Quarterback Eagles Mike Vick's mobility puts pressure on defenses in two ways. He not only can run for first downs, but his ability to get outside and extend plays puts tremendous pressure on the secondary to stay with his receivers. You saw that when he gave DeSean Jackson time to lose the Rams' Quintin Mikell on a 6-yard TD. Falcons Matt Ryan has a 33-14 record as a starter.

Germantown Academy halfback Matt Blewitt wasn't thinking about setting the school's career rushing record Saturday during halftime of his game at Peddie School. Instead, he was wondering how he would endure the wrath of his coach, Bill Caum, over GA's slim 9-0 lead, the result of three Greg Davis field goals of 20, 30 and 17 yards. Meanwhile, the Patriots hurt themselves with 60 yards in penalties. Fortunately for Blewitt, he scored four second-half touchdowns as GA (3-1) reacted to Caum's tongue-lashing by rolling to a 42-0 rout of the host Falcons (1-1)

Both are from the Philly area. Both were stars in college. Both are rookie quarterbacks and both made their NFL debuts yesterday. And one more thing: Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco both were winners their first time out. Ryan, the Penn Charter High product, threw for a touchdown on his first NFL pass in Atlanta's 34-21 win over visiting Detroit. Flacco, from Audubon (N.J.) High, ran for a 38-yard touchdown and Baltimore held off visiting Cincinnati, 17-10. Ryan electrified the crowd with a 62-yard touchdown pass to Michael Jenkins 1 minutes, 27 seconds into the game - before many fans had settled in their seats.

40 Rushing yards for Eagles backup running back Eldra Buckley. Even if newcomer Jerome Harrison turns out to be a solid alternative to starter LeSean McCoy, it was nice to see Buckley chip in some yards against a pretty good Falcons defense. Buckley got 12 carries and averaged 3.3 yards, including a 13-yard rumble up the middle early in the fourth quarter.   78 Penalty yards for the Eagles. Overshadowed by the victory was the fact that the Birds committed nine penalties, far more than the Falcons' two flags for 30 yards.

ATLANTA - A disconsolate Mike Smith watched the chip-shot field goal sail through the uprights, then walked slowly across the field, his head down, to shake hands with the other coach. Smith knew this loss was on him. John Kasay kicked a 26-yard field goal in overtime after the Atlanta coach decided to go for it on fourth down deep in his own territory yesterday, a decision that backfired horribly and handed the New Orleans Saints a 26-23 victory over the Falcons. "I know it will be scrutinized all week long," Smith said.

AFTER GIVING up a franchise-record 31 touchdown passes last year, the Eagles invested a lot of time and money into fixing the problem. They beefed up their pass rush (see: Jason Babin and Cullen Jenkins) and added two top-of-the-line cornerbacks (see: Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie). So guess what? Two games into the season, the Eagles are on pace to give up even more touchdown passes than last year. That's right . . . More. After successfully managing to keep the Rams' receivers out of the end zone in their 31-13 Week 1 victory, they gave up four TD passes to Matt Ryan and the Falcons Sunday.

SOME THOUGHTS on the Eagles' 35-31 Week 2 loss to the Falcons while wondering why my dogs continue to think I'm never coming back every time I leave the house:   The run defense Michael Turner rushed for 114 yards on 21 carries against the Eagles, with 61 of those yards coming on that momentum-swinging burst up the middle with 8 minutes left in the game and the Eagles clinging to a three-point lead. Turner had opened the game with 8- and 15-yard runs and gained 41 yards on his first seven carries.

A football game can pivot and swing on the fulcrum of a dozen or more plays, any of which could eventually be called the most important of them all. It was certainly that way Sunday night in Atlanta when the Eagles and Falcons traded scoring drives and punches before the wild music finally stopped with Atlanta holding a 35-31 lead. Because the Falcons won, the biggest play could have been a third-down touchdown catch by Tony Gonzalez in the second quarter, a juggling, straining catch in which Gonzalez had both tippy toes on the turf and control of the ball for only the briefest of moments.

Despite losing Michael Vick, despite a Falcons interception that maybe wasn't, despite trailing by 11 points early in the third quarter, the Eagles had Sunday's game in their hands when the fourth quarter opened. With 15 minutes to go, they had a 10-point lead and Atlanta was on its own 35-yard line. The Eagles had gained 350 yards on offense. The Falcons had 167. Running back Michael Turner's average run had been limited to 2.8 yards. Quarterback Matt Ryan had completed just nine passes (though three of them were for touchdowns)

ATLANTA - To many in Atlanta, he still has something to prove. Matt Ryan has put up impressive numbers as the Falcons quarterback but for some Falcons fans he may never fully replace the man who suited up opposite him last night - Michael Vick. If there was a regular-season stage for Ryan to answer a few of those questions, this was it. And winning will quiet a lot of critics, even if he was the only healthy starting quarterback left standing in this hyped matchup.

ATLANTA - Last week, the Rams' Steven Jackson ran for a 47-yard touchdown through a hole that Andy Reid admitted he even could fit through, and panicking Eagles fans cried, "See, I told ya. Our linebackers are too puny. We can't stop the run. We are doomed. We will never, ever make it to the Super Bowl with this awful run defense. " After giving up 90 rushing yards to the Rams on their first two possessions, though, the Eagles stiffened and held them to 3.4 yards per carry in the rest of a 31-13 win. But Eagles fans still weren't convinced, pointing out that Jackson left the game with a quad injury after his second carry.
