A news release from the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office said McCready was found dead with what appeared to be a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was found on the front porch of a home. She arrived in Nashville in 1994 with tapes of her karaoke vocals and earned a recording contract with BNA Records. In 1996, her "Guys Do It All the Time" hit No. 1 and its dig at male chauvinism endeared her to females.

How hot, how popular, how devastatingly handsome is that smoldering Wolverine, Hugh Jackman ? So charismatic, says Hugh's remarkably lovely and fetching wife of 15 years, Deborra-Lee Furness , that crowds virtually trample her (for shame!) to get to her man. The delightful D-Lee tells the New York Post's Page Six Magazine, Thursday edition, that she has "been almost pummeled" by Hughophiles clamoring to steal away a milligram of his essence. "Literally, they will push you out of the way," Furness says.

CAN TATTLE be the first to call it "Paulagate"? Seeking to perhaps make a molehill into a mountain while "American Idol" is on hiatus, Fox TV has brought in an independent counsel (you know, like Kenneth Starr, except not) to investigate former contestant Corey Clark's charges against judge Paula Abdul. Fox entertainment president Peter Liguori said both Abdul and Clark have been interviewed regarding whether Clark was coached by Abdul and later had a sexual relationship with her. "Some allegations were denied," Liguori said.

ROGER CLEMENS said little publicly in the immediate aftermath of the Hall of Fame vote. More than a month later, he's willing to share his thoughts - but the 354-game winner is not about to start a lobbying campaign. "I'm not going to lose any sleep over it," Clemens said in Kissimmee, Fla. "If those guys feel I deserve to be there, then I deserve to be there. If they feel I don't, then that's OK, too. " Clemens was at spring training Monday as a special instructor for the Houston Astros, and he spoke for a bit with the team's pitchers about his mental approach to the game.

TTHE Hollywood Reporter says Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment are pondering a third "Nutty Professor" movie. They just need an idea and a script. Eddie Murphy's participation is dependent on the script. Not that the script has to be good - we've seen Murphy's recent movies - but that it has to exist. And have a really fat check paper-clipped to it. (Tattle's idea for Universal/NBC synergy: Sherman Klump goes on "The Biggest Loser"; all week long Jillian screams at his fat ass, then on weigh-in day he's skinny.
