Tyler Kaiser has been throwing his knuckle-curve since he was 12. It's still surprising batters. But the bigger eye-opener has been the work of Kaiser and the rest of the Moorestown pitching staff through the first week of the baseball season. "We lost most of our pitchers from last year," said Kaiser, a senior who worked three scoreless innings of relief in a 3-1 victory over Burlington Township on Thursday in a clash of Top 10 teams and Burlington County League Liberty Division rivals.

If North Korea were to launch a ballistic missile at the United States, the Aegis air-defense missile system designed and built by Lockheed Martin Corp. for ships could detect and strike it down within minutes. Not just hit the missile, but destroy the warhead and determine whether the threat was conventional explosives or chemical, biological, or nuclear in nature. For 40 years, Lockheed Martin in Moorestown has been the Navy's contractor for the Aegis system, which uses radar, sensors, and computers to detect, track, and guide weapons that can intercept enemy threats.

Even with North Korea threatening nuclear war, the mood was jubilant - even cocky - at Moorestown's Lockheed Martin Corp. plant Thursday as employees and public officials celebrated a new $100 million contract for its Aegis antimissile defense system. The Navy recently announced that Lockheed Martin was the victor in a fierce competition to design and build its next generation of Aegis: a computer-guided radar system that can detect incoming missile threats and guides the surface-to-air missiles that would shoot them down.

PRESEASON GIRLS' LACROSSE Last year's records in parentheses. 1. Moorestown (26-0). The Quakers are replacing eight starters from last year's Tournament of Champions-winning team. Ho-hum. Moorestown is still Moorestown. The Quakers feature virtually an entire roster of Division I recruits and should again be among the top high school girls' lacrosse teams in the nation. 2. Shawnee (18-3). The Renegades graduated a strong senior class but return a deep, talented, and experienced team.

Every year, there is a slogan - splashed across T-shirts worn by all the players, usually yellow letters on black cotton. This year's is as fitting as any has ever been: The endless pursuit of perfection. Hyperbole for some teams. For the Moorestown girls' lacrosse squad, it's a way of life, a standard of working and playing, proven repeatedly across generations. The Quakers are fresh off a 26-0 campaign, including a Tournament of Champions title - a perfect season. They are replacing eight starters, including Inquirer South Jersey player of the year Steph Toy, arguably the greatest player ever to represent the greatest high school girls' lacrosse program in the nation's history.

There is a certain happy chaos to life these days at the Moorestown home of Meredith and Seth Broder. As Passover arrives Monday night at sundown, the Broders and their children, Eliza, 11, and Zachary, 10, and family and friends will mark the ancient ritual that celebrates Jewish freedom from Egyptian slavery. They will do it in a home Meredith and Seth designed for just such occasions, where they can enjoy a deep love of family and heritage in a setting where informality reigns.
