September 2, 2012 | DAILY NEWS WIRE REPORTS "A
MERICAN IDOL'S" game of musical chairs may have taken another casualty as new reports claim Randy Jackson is vacating his post as judge - a spot he's held since the singing competition premiered in 2002. Jackson is reportedly stepping away from the judges' table but would continue to play a role in the show as a mentor to the contestants. No word on what capacity that mentorship would be. "Idol" currently relies on guest musicians to dole out advice alongside Jimmy Iovine, the in-house "Idol" mentor and chairman of Interscope/ Geffen/ A&M (contestants broker deals through Universal Music Group, with Interscope proving popular among them)

In an era of fashionista rappers with gangsta attitude, such as Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks, it's awesome — even necessary — that Eve make her return. At 33, Philly's self-proclaimed "pit bull in a skirt" can show up any of her imitators. She proved as much during an intimate (200 people) gig Wednesday at Fishtown's funky Kung Fu Necktie. From her earliest days as one of the Ruff Ryders to her own pop-hop hits ("Who's That Girl?") and a klatch of smash collaborations with Gwen Stefani, Eve was always the queen of swagger.

I'M SURPRISED that everyone is speaking about Miley Cyrus' performance and is embarrassed by her behavior. Are you familiar with Robin Thicke's song "Blurred Lines" - an edited version because the original version was too risqué to air? Haven't we seen Nicki Minaj perform lap dances on stage? Haven't we seen Ciara twerk on stage? Haven't we seen Lil Wayne performing wearing his underwear on stage? Didn't we recently view Rihanna performing to the song "Cake," slapping her private parts?

There have been moments, sometimes lasting years, when Britney Spears has seemed like an accessory to her own career - the public face of a vast army of producers, songwriters, choreographers, stylists, publicity agents, and marketing executives. But holding together that tangle of competing agendas is no easy task. Part of what great pop stars do is provide a sense of continuity, using the force of their personality to bridge the gaps between trends. It cannot be an easy job, and six weeks into her Femme Fatale tour, even Britney Spears looked as though she was tired of being Britney Spears.

The court was shocked, shocked, to find topless photos of a beautiful celeb in a French magazine. Actually, "brutal" was how the tribunal in Nanterre, France, described the pics of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge , née Kate Middleton , that appeared Friday in the magazine Closer. The court, responding to a complaint by Kate and hub Prince William , ordered the mag on Tuesday to turn over all digital copies of the pics within 24 hours and cease further publication of them. The publishers will be fined $13,100 for every day they delay.

The story line for the new season of American Idol was established almost immediately. Nicki Minaj was the last of the judges to make an appearance, emerging from her limo in a stunning drum majorette hat. Pecking order established. Ain't no party until Ms. Nicki arrives. She then set about dominating the program, mugging endlessly for the camera, spewing nonsense phrases, monopolizing the conversation, drifting into a bizarrely posh English accent, making up crazy nicknames for everyone on the set, and visually fondling every good-looking male contestant.

STRONG RUMORS around the local CBS Radio cluster suggest that 94 WYSP will become the FM home of Sportsradio 610 WIP and drop its longtime rock format around Labor Day. WIP program director Andy Bloom said that he could neither confirm nor deny the rumor but that there were rumors about the stations all the time. CBS Radio market manager Marc Rayfield said essentially the same thing. But CBS Radio recently flipped two underperforming music stations - WJZ FM in Baltimore and WBZ in Boston - to sports.

LOS ANGELES - Adele won six Grammys, including song of the year, record of the year and album of the year, and Foo Fighters captured five at a Grammy ceremony that had the difficult task of celebrating music's best while mourning the loss of one of their greatest. Whitney Houston's death on the eve of the awards forced a delicate balance between the exuberance of the show's winners and performances with the loss. Adele, who owned the year's best-selling album with "21," was triumphant in her first performance since vocal-cord surgery forced the cancellation of a tour and months of vocal rest.

REIGNING RAP diva Nicki Minaj channeled Janet Jackson on "Good Morning America" yesterday when she experienced a full-on nipple slip. Wearing a low-cut olive tank, a cropped cotton-candy-pink jacket and sporting a blond curly mane, Minaj was performing her new single "Moment 4 Life" when her boob simply couldn't contain its excitement and popped out of her top. This is Minaj's first public nip slip, but she kept it together and quickly adjusted...

Anyone can take the road to fame and fortune. Anyone. Just ask Muhammad Shahid Nazir , a Pakistani-born fishmonger who became an overnight sensation while hawking frozen snapper and mackerel for one British pound ($1.61) at a London market. Following in the well-trodden footsteps of that adorable Canadian teen Justin Bieber , Nazir, 31, found a massive audience after a video showing him singing a catchy tune was posted on YouTube. Unlike Justin, Nazir performed not a love song, but a tune about selling fish.
