September 2, 2012 | DAILY NEWS WIRE REPORTS "A
MERICAN IDOL'S" game of musical chairs may have taken another casualty as new reports claim Randy Jackson is vacating his post as judge - a spot he's held since the singing competition premiered in 2002. Jackson is reportedly stepping away from the judges' table but would continue to play a role in the show as a mentor to the contestants. No word on what capacity that mentorship would be. "Idol" currently relies on guest musicians to dole out advice alongside Jimmy Iovine, the in-house "Idol" mentor and chairman of Interscope/ Geffen/ A&M (contestants broker deals through Universal Music Group, with Interscope proving popular among them)

With viewers abandoning American Idol in flash mobs, the future of the former ratings juggernaut is wrapped in turmoil and scotch-taped in uncertainty. So it was tempting to watch Idol 's finale the way Kremlinologists once pored over pictures of the Politburo, trying to deduce who was in and who was out. Randy Jackson, the only original judge left on the show, was honored for 12 loud years of service with a video valediction. Unfortunately, it was framed in a Dogs Playing Poker package, with subtitled barks.

"I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist," Steven Tyler said on Canadian TV in a quasi-apology to Nicki Minaj , we hope the last salvo in one of the sadder media smackdowns in recent memory. It began when Tyler, an American Idol alum, attacked the show's new judges as ignorant. "You just have to give your opinion. It wasn't hard for me," Tyler told MTV. "If it was Bob Dylan [competing], Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield!" He added, "Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out. " This put Minaj out of sorts.

The story line for the new season of American Idol was established almost immediately. Nicki Minaj was the last of the judges to make an appearance, emerging from her limo in a stunning drum majorette hat. Pecking order established. Ain't no party until Ms. Nicki arrives. She then set about dominating the program, mugging endlessly for the camera, spewing nonsense phrases, monopolizing the conversation, drifting into a bizarrely posh English accent, making up crazy nicknames for everyone on the set, and visually fondling every good-looking male contestant.

She did the red carpet as Little Red Riding Hood (in a blood-red Atelier Versace nun-inspired satin robe) with a pope-alike in full faux-Vatican regalia on her arm. Nicki Minaj at the Grammys. So scandalous! Minaj, 29, later performed "Roman Reloaded," with a stage show out of The Exorcist : She was strapped to a leather table, levitated, surrounded by roaring flames, and did a mock self-exorcism. The spectacle disgusted The View' s Sherri Shepherd . "I didn't know whether to dance or pull out my Bible and lay hands on the tv," she tweeted.

LOS ANGELES - Adele won six Grammys, including song of the year, record of the year and album of the year, and Foo Fighters captured five at a Grammy ceremony that had the difficult task of celebrating music's best while mourning the loss of one of their greatest. Whitney Houston's death on the eve of the awards forced a delicate balance between the exuberance of the show's winners and performances with the loss. Adele, who owned the year's best-selling album with "21," was triumphant in her first performance since vocal-cord surgery forced the cancellation of a tour and months of vocal rest.

REIGNING RAP diva Nicki Minaj channeled Janet Jackson on "Good Morning America" yesterday when she experienced a full-on nipple slip. Wearing a low-cut olive tank, a cropped cotton-candy-pink jacket and sporting a blond curly mane, Minaj was performing her new single "Moment 4 Life" when her boob simply couldn't contain its excitement and popped out of her top. This is Minaj's first public nip slip, but she kept it together and quickly adjusted...

Anyone can take the road to fame and fortune. Anyone. Just ask Muhammad Shahid Nazir , a Pakistani-born fishmonger who became an overnight sensation while hawking frozen snapper and mackerel for one British pound ($1.61) at a London market. Following in the well-trodden footsteps of that adorable Canadian teen Justin Bieber , Nazir, 31, found a massive audience after a video showing him singing a catchy tune was posted on YouTube. Unlike Justin, Nazir performed not a love song, but a tune about selling fish.

Pet Shop Boys Electric (x2 ***1/2) With the aid of producer Stuart Price - former helpmate to Madonna and the Killers - the Pet Shop Boys get back on the dance floor with an aptly named, heartening return to form. Electronic dance music would seem to be a young button-pushing programmer's game. But what's stopping a pair of drolly intellectual Brits who date to the '80s from upping the beats-per-minute and getting a thought- provoking party started? On Electric , nothing.
