The burgeoning career of the rapper Meek Mill was put on ice Thursday when a Philadelphia judge ruled that the 28-year-old star had again violated his probation from a 2008 drug and gun conviction. Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley hinted that the North Philadelphia rapper's next out-of-town tour - after he is sentenced Feb. 5 - could be state prison. "I bent over backward to give him every opportunity to grow his career," Brinkley told defense lawyer Frank DeSimone at the end of the 51/2-hour, virtually nonstop hearing.

Meek Mill is back. The Philadelphia rapper, brand, and all-around hip-hop presence, who marked his "homecoming" Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center, made news last year when he violated terms of his five-year probation in connection with a 2009 gun and drug conviction. Common Pleas Court Judge Genece Brinkley said he failed to get permission for out-of-town gigs, dissed his probation officer and prosecutor on Twitter, and posed for Instagram snaps holding guns. To jail he went, from July to December, leaving a lot of canceled shows in his wake.

Eight years after Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, some unexpected controversy returned to the Super Bowl halftime show. M.I.A., appearing on stage with Madonna and Nicki Minaj to perform "Give Me All Your Luvin'," flipped the middle finger to a camera before a cutaway. The song contains an inappropriate word, which she did not say, using the middle finger in place of the word. NBC went to a wide view of the stage, but it was too late as M.I.A.'s middle finger gesture could be seen.
