The Wings' Geoff Snider was named the NLL's transition player of the week for his performance in the Wings' 15-14 overtime win over the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday at the Wachovia Center. Snider scored two goals, scooped nine loose balls, and won 21 of 28 face-offs in the victory, which improved the Wings to 3-0 for the first time since 1997. "Geoff's goal five seconds into the game and face-off win that led to the game-winning goal in overtime were perfect bookends to a terrific game," Wings head coach Dave Huntley said.

The Wings are looking forward to the beginning of a "new" season, especially the way the recent one ended. On Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Wings travel to Rochester to face the Knighthawks in the first round of the National League playoffs. The Wings (7-9) lost their final five regular season games. Rochester is also 7-9 but won the tiebreaker and home advantage by going 3-0 against the Wings this season. Eight of the nine NLL teams qualified for the postseason in what will be a single-elimination format all three rounds.

The Wings earned a slot in the NLL playoffs in dramatic fashion with a 10-9 overtime victory over the league-leading Toronto Rock in the team's home finale Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center Saturday afternoon. The Wings played physically in the back-and-forth victory over the Rock (10-5) to secure their second playoff berth in as many years. After Toronto tied the game at 9-9 on a penalty shot with under a minute to play, the Wings capitalized early in the extra period as forward Jordan Hall caught a perfect pass from Drew Westervelt and lit the lamp for the winner.

Got Philadelphia Wings indoor-lacrosse tickets? If so, there's bad news. The 2008 National Lacrosse League season was canceled yesterday. Because the league's 14 owners and the players' union failed to resolve a long-simmering labor dispute, there will be no pro indoor lacrosse at the Wachovia Center for, well, no one knows how long. So don't show up for the Wings' Jan. 12 season and home opener. "It's tragic," said Russ Cline, the Wings' president and owner, a member of the NLL executive committee and one of the league's founders 21 years ago. "It's a black day," said Dave Succamore, the executive director of the Professional Lacrosse Players' Association.

The Wings will play two games in what is the NLL's busiest weekend of the season. A total of seven games will be played, including the Wings' rematch with the Bandits in Buffalo on Saturday and their first meeting of the season with the visiting Calgary Roughnecks on Sunday. The Wings, fresh off last Sunday's victory over Toronto courtesy of a goal by forward Drew Westervelt, are 2-0 and the NLL's only undefeated team. "Our main focus is Buffalo first," coach Johnny Mouradian said Wednesday.
