DEE MILLINER brought the goods, just as he'd predicted he would when he met with reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine Sunday. NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said Sunday the big question about Milliner, the Alabama cornerback considered best at his position in the draft, was his "long speed. " Milliner tore up the turf at Lucas Oil Stadium Tuesday in Indianapolis with an unofficial 4.31 40, officially logged at 4.37, buttressing his assertion Sunday that anyone who doubted his athleticism should "watch the NFL Combine.

INDIANAPOLIS - No part of the Eagles roster is expected to undergo as much of an overhaul this offseason as the secondary, with uncertainty reigning at the cornerback and safety positions. There will be opportunity for the Eagles to address those needs in the draft, particularly in the middle rounds. This is an abnormally strong class of safeties - one that Chicago Bears general manager Phil Emery said includes five or six potential starters, and one that has more quality than NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock can ever remember.

INDIANAPOLIS - Howie Roseman's job right now is to find the kinds of players new coach Chip Kelly needs, building at least a slightly different template than the one the Eagles used for 14 years under Andy Reid. Defining that template is a huge, important undertaking in Year 1 of a regime, and it has been Roseman's focus at the NFL Scouting Combine, as the Eagles' general manager sits every day with Kelly and the rest of the scouting and coaching operation, watching more than 300 prospects work out. "It's a learning process," Roseman said Sunday.

INDIANAPOLIS - Like Michael Vick, there once was a time when it seemed implausible that Nnamdi Asomugha would play for the 2013 Eagles. The former all-pro cornerback, with even the most positive of reviews, has been average since the Eagles signed him to a five-year, $60 million contract in July of 2011. Asomugha, in the end, will make considerably less than that number when the Eagles finally decide to release him. But a parting of ways may have to wait a year because the contract that keeps taking will take at least another $4 million from Jeffrey Lurie's coffers.

INDIANAPOLIS - Like his brother, Travis Kelce is working back from an injury. Kelce, the Cincinnati tight end who is one of the better prospects at that position in the upcoming draft, underwent offseason sports hernia surgery and isn't working out at the NFL Scouting Combine. Jason Kelce, the Eagles' center, tore his ACL in the second game of the 2012 season. Both are expected to be fine for the 2013 season. "I tore it probably around Week 3. During the season, just played on it, played through it, got through the season," said Travis, the beardless Kelce.

INDIANAPOLIS - Nick Foles is a long way from being traded, from what Chip Kelly said Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "I want to coach Nick," Kelly said when asked whether the Eagles have fielded any offers for the second-year quarterback from Arizona, who started six games as a rookie. "I want to get a chance to spend time with him. I've said before, I'm a big fan of his, the way he plays the game, his toughness, his ability to throw the ball, very accurate. I want a chance to hopefully get him out on the practice field.

INDIANAPOLIS - Conclusions should not be drawn from Chip Kelly's and Howie Roseman's lukewarm endorsement of Nnamdi Asomugha on Thursday at the NFL scouting combine. Neither the Eagles coach nor the general manager came out and said he had no interest in keeping the 31-year-old cornerback - even at his $15.5 million salary. But the Eagles' brain trust - especially Kelly, who has already lavished praise on certain players - gave little indication that Asomugha will be part of the team's plans moving forward.

It is "very unlikely" that the Eagles will use the franchise-player tag on any of their seven unrestricted free agents, according to a league source. That group includes cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who was likely the only player under consideration. The franchise tag helps teams keep unrestricted free agents without having to reach a long-term deal, but they must pay them the average of the top five salaries for players at their position if the player accepts. Teams are compensated with two first-round draft picks if another team signs the player.

This is from post by Daily News sports columnist Rich Hofmann from his blog, The Idle Rich:   THERE ARE not a lot of NFL first-round draft choices who stay in the business after retirement. The Eagles have one in Todd Lyght, their assistant defensive backs coach. He and running backs coach Duce Staley and assistant tight ends coach Justin Peele (a 10-year NFL player) are the members of Chip Kelly's staff who have been there and done that. It is a necessary component on any modern NFL staff.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - They made it easy. With their atrocious farewell performance here Sunday, the Eagles removed any doubt about what needs to be done. It starts with the dismissal of Andy Reid, obviously, but it should not end there. If Howie Roseman is going to remain in charge, as it appears, then he should start general managing immediately. Before the close of business Monday, Roseman should cut ties with a handful of the players most closely identified with this horrendous season.
