Looking to follow up on his 16-goal output last season, Darren Reid scored a pair of power-play goals last night and the Phantoms held on to defeat the Norfolk Admirals, 4-3, in their AHL opener at the Wachovia Spectrum. The Phantoms used three power-play goals to jump-start their offense before a pair of miscues invited the Admirals back into the game. "Every night there are lots of penalties, so you have to have good special teams," Phantoms coach Craig Berube said. "Tonight the penalty-killing units did a great job, and our power play scored and they created a lot of chances.

Jared Ross' power-play goal early in the third period provided the winning margin as the Phantoms beat the Norfolk Admirals, 3-2, yesterday in an AHL game at the Wachovia Spectrum. Oskars Bartulis and Rob Sirianni also scored for the Phantoms. Scott Munroe made 26 saves on 28 Norfolk shots.

Mike Brown scored a breakaway goal during the second period to break a 1-1 tie and the Norfolk Admirals exploded for four goals in the third period last night and gave the Phantoms their worst beating of the season, 6-2, in the AHL.

The Phantoms fell behind early and lost to the Norfolk Admirals, 4-2, in the AHL last night. It was the third straight loss for the Phantoms, who continue to lead the East Division. The Admirals jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second period. Jonathan Matsumoto made it a 3-1 game on a power play. But Norfolk reclaimed its three-goal lead just 3 minutes, 18 seconds into the third period with another power-play tally.

Scott Munroe made 30 saves last night as the Phantoms posted a 3-0 shutout over the Norfolk Admirals at the Wachovia Spectrum for their sixth AHL win in a row. The victory put the Phantoms one point ahead of Binghamton in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the AHL East. Each team has three games remaining. David Laliberte scored twice in a three-goal first period for the winners. Laliberte has 28 goals this season. Defenseman Michael Ratchuk scored the first goal of the game.

Left winger Boyd Kane scored a pair of goals last night to lift the Phantoms to a 4-2 AHL victory over the Norfolk Admirals at the Norfolk Scope. Philadelphia won its fifth in a row. Sean Curry and David Laliberte also scored for the Phantoms, who improved to 41-29-2-4. The victory left them one point behind the Binghamton Senators for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division. Norfolk outshot the Phantoms, 37-30, but Philadelphia's Jean-Sebastien Aubin made 35 saves to lift his record to 10-9-1.

Three shoot-out goals gave the Norfolk Admirals a 3-2 win over the Phantoms last night in an AHL game at the Wachovia Spectrum. Mikhail Yakubov's goal clinched the win after Jason Morgan, the fourth shooter, gave the Admirals a 2-1 lead in the shoot-out. The Phantoms' Mark Murphy was unable to counter Morgan. The teams entered the shootout in a 2-2 tie. Game rescheduled. The Phantoms' game against the Albany River Rats scheduled for Sunday has been switched to 7:05 p.m. next Monday.

Max Talbot's injury and the team's mini-surge apparently have changed the Flyers' plans: They now could be a buyer as Wednesday's 3 p.m. trade deadline approaches. They made a minor move Monday, acquiring enforcer Jay Rosehill from Anaheim for speedy winger Harry Zolnierczyk. Rosehill, a left winger, is expected to be at the Flyers' practice Tuesday in Voorhees. The Flyers announced that Talbot suffered a broken left leg in Sunday's wild 5-4 overtime win over Washington and that he would be sidelined indefinitely.

Branden Bochenski and Chris Gratton scored goals in the shoot-out session last night to lift the Norfolk Admirals to a 3-2 win over the Phantoms in an AHL game at the Wachovia Spectrum. Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie after the Phantoms' Claude Giroux scored with less than six minutes left in the third period. Jared Ross's score with less than eight minutes left in the second period brought the Phantoms (19-11-0-1) to a 1-1 tie. Jason Ward scored just under five minutes later to put Norfolk (12-16-1-4)

Phantoms goalie Scott Munroe recorded his fourth shutout of the season last night in a 3-0 AHL victory over the Norfolk Admirals. The win at the Wachovia Spectrum snapped a three-game losing streak and extended the Phantoms' East Division lead over Albany to five points. The Phantoms, who outshot the Admirals by 41-22, scored their first goal with 35 seconds left in the first period on a slapshot by Jared Ross. Pete Zingoni scored early in the second period, and the 2-0 lead held up until Kyle Greentree sealed the win with 3 minutes, 36 seconds to play in the third.

Darroll Powe's shorthanded and unassisted goal at 10 minutes, 8 seconds of the second period stood up last night as the Phantoms beat the Norfolk Admirals, 1-0, in an AHL game. Goalie Scott Munroe stopped all 25 of Norfolk's shots, while his Admirals counterpart, Kartri Ramo, saved 26 of the Phantoms' 27 shots. It was Munroe's second shutout of the season. The Phantoms continue to lead the East Division at 19-7-1, increasing their advantage to five points over the Albany River Rats, who lost.
