SCRANTON - The motley, mismatched motorcade of pickups and convertibles crawled down Linden Street on Saturday, each vehicle holding a cast member from The Office . The crowd along the half-mile parade route from the University of Scranton campus to Courthouse Square - shoulder-to-shoulder and three deep - hooted and hollered for its favorite characters. Phyllis! Oscar! Dwight! PamandJim! So ends one of the sweetest abusive relationships in Pennsylvania history: the affair between Scranton and the NBC sitcom that used it as a punchline for nine years.

Denise Bacchues grew up in Camden. So did Mitzi Collins. They both graduated from the same police academy class 16 years ago. Bacchues, 42, a self-styled mother-hen type, said she became a Camden City officer because she wanted to work with youths. Collins, 54, said she was inspired as a child by a kind officer in North Camden. "He was like my hero," she said. The 141-year-old city police force that the women have spent their entire careers serving will no longer exist after Tuesday, paving the way for a Camden County-run force whose metro division is to patrol the city.

If Cherry Hill police officers were to respond to a mass shooting or bombings like the situation in Boston two weeks ago, their job would not be limited to stopping the perpetrators. They would also have to save victims from bleeding to death, an emergency medical services coordinator from Cooper University Hospital told them Monday. "You're not going to wait for EMS. You're going to go in there and engage," Chris Taylor told about 20 officers at the Camden County public safety complex in Lindenwold, where they recently completed state-mandated firearms testing.

The alleged gunman from Calabria, a southern region plagued by joblessness and organized crime, told investigators he wanted to shoot politicians. But finding none in the square, he shot at Carabinieri paramilitary police.
