The Catholic League and Public League might find a new rule regarding football ties to be a good fit. At a meeting earlier this month, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association approved overtime for regular-season games, starting this fall. The idea sounds good to Fran Dougherty and Joe Stanley, who oversee football in the CL and PL, respectively, and each said he would push for the rule to be instituted in his league. "Hey, I wish we thought of it first," Dougherty said.

Don D'Ambra scored the tying goal with one second remaining in regulation and the Kixx defeated the California Cougars, 18-16, in overtime last night in a Major Indoor Soccer League game at Stockton Arena. Rookie Tony Donatelli scored the goal in OT to cap the comeback. The Kixx (12-7) scored four goals in the final two minutes of regulation to erase a six-point deficit and send the game into overtime. D'Ambra had a hat trick, as did Sandre Naumoski, who scored twice in the final 1 minute, 58 seconds.

Roy Colsey's overtime goal sent the unbeaten Barrage past the Chicago Machine, 13-12, in Major League Lacrosse last night. The Barrage improved to 4-0. Chicago (0-4) had taken a 9-3 lead in the first half. But Colsey scored all three of his goals in the second half and overtime to lead the comeback. His goal with 2 minutes, 54 seconds to play tied the game and set up the overtime. He scored the game-winner a minute into the sudden-death extra session. Goalie Brian Dougherty held the Machine scoreless in the fourth period and overtime.

On the night after they clinched their second consecutive Ivy League championship, the Penn Quakers needed overtime to beat Brown, 74-68, last night at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Quakers (20-7, 12-1 league) trailed almost the entire way, but they got a big performance out of Eric Osmundson in the second half. Osmundson hit five three-pointers - all in the second half and overtime - and delivered five assists. Mark Zoller scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Brian Grandieri added 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

Pat Morris scored a three-point goal nearly 13 minutes into overtime and the Kixx (22-8) defeated the Dallas Sidekicks, 13-10, in the MISL last night. Morris, a defender, connected on the game-winner on an assist from Goran Vasic at 12 minutes, 47 seconds of the overtime. The victory clinched the Eastern Conference title for the defending league champion Kixx, who will get a first-round bye in the playoffs. Philadelphia rallied from an eight-point deficit in the third period, tying the game at 10-10 with less than three minutes to play on a goal by Don D'Ambra.

A SEPTA employee fired last month for allegedly falsifying overtime records says he was framed by SEPTA Inspector General Leon Wigrizer. The employee, John Murphy, of Holmesburg, says Wigrizer did it because he was embarrassed by a Daily News story on Wigrizer's own use of overtime as a city official. Murphy filed a lawsuit in Common Pleas Court yesterday against SEPTA and three SEPTA officials, including Wigrizer, demanding his job back. Murphy, 53, also is claiming he was a victim of age discrimination, charging that SEPTA management had on numerous occasions called him "an old goat.

Peter White had a hat trick and scored the winning goal in overtime as the Phantoms beat the Milwaukee Admirals, 6-5, in the AHL last night. White and Mark Greig each recorded four points in front of a season-high crowd of 9,683 at the First Union Spectrum. Greig, who rejoined the Phantoms yesterday after a four-game stint with the Flyers, finished with a goal and three assists. The duo accounted for the winning goal 2 minutes, 38 seconds into overtime as Greig came up with a loose puck by the far boards and centered it to White.

Pat Kavanagh scored the game-winner in overtime as the Phantoms beat the Albany River Rats, 3-2, in the AHL last night. Kavanagh had two goals in the game and the Phantoms won their second in a row. They collected two power-play goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Jim Campbell scored his first in a Phantoms sweater and Kavanagh snapped a 15-game goalless streak late in the period. It was his first goal since Dec. 7. But Aaron Voros scored his second of the game with 2 minutes, 57 seconds remaining in regulation, knocking home a rebound to tie it at 2-2 and force overtime.

Mark Eaton scored on a power play 15 seconds into overtime last night to give the Phantoms a 4-3 victory over the Hershey Bears in an American Hockey League game at the First Union Spectrum. Todd White had a point on every Phantoms goal. His goal and three assists gave him 30 points in only 17 games. Neil Little stopped 26 shots for the Phantoms to improve his record to 21-13-2. The Phantoms took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Tomas Divisek got a step ahead of Hershey's defense, took a pass from Steve Washburn, and fired a slapshot past goaltender Frederic Cassivi.
