Tyler DiMatteo delivered two RBIs and Jimmy Reardon picked up the win in relief as Springfield (Delco) edged visiting Garnet Valley, 9-8, Tuesday afternoon in a Central League baseball game. Joe Sheeran added two hits and two runs scored. In other Central League action: Jordan Little pitched a complete game and struck out four as Conestoga rolled at Radnor, 10-2. Steve Born, a junior centerfielder, drove in three runs and scored three times. Donovan Davis went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs to lead Strath Haven past visiting Ridley, 9-5. Ches-Mont.

IN ONLY 15.7 seconds (we timed it), Gardner Nutter smashed the record (whatever it was) for the most let's-go-to-the-dictionary words uttered by someone being interviewed for a high school story in the People Paper. Here we go . . . Let the head-scratching begin: Lumbar. Thoracic. Therabands. Oscillating. Deceleration. Ryan Luxton earned a save and a victory Saturday, helping the Penn Charter baseball team sweep a nonleague doubleheader against visiting Perkiomen School, 6-5 and 4-2. After pitching a three-hit shutout against her team's league rival, Katie Wenger unabashedly declared her fielders' defense "on fire. " Then the Agnes Irwin righthander said that she loved them. The junior's enthusiasm was well warranted Thursday afternoon, as the host Owls defeated Episcopal Academy, 2-0, in an Inter-Ac League softball game. The Agnes Irwin victory snapped the Churchwomen's four-game winning streak and avenged a season-opening loss to them. "I can throw any pitch and I know that if I mess up that no matter what, they have my back," Wenger said.

Carolyn Spellacy pitched a perfect game for visiting Friends' Central, which defeated Academy of New Church, 13-0, in a Friends Schools League softball game on Friday. Spellacy struck out seven in five innings for the first perfect game of her career. In other Friends action: Sophomore first baseman Hannah Stratford went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored for host Germantown Friends, which beat George School, 11-6. Rachel Allison added three hits and scored three times.

Peter Donato and Mike Cherry scored three goals each Tuesday as host Radnor topped Conestoga, 10-3, to snap the Pioneers' 32-game Central League winning streak in boys' lacrosse. Conestoga, led by Jake Scott's two goals, last lost a league game on April 20, 2010. Inter-Ac. With two late goals, Ian Strain lifted Episcopal Academy over visiting Malvern Prep, 8-7. The midfielder tied the game with 1:25 left in regulation and won it in overtime. Ryan Hillburn led Malvern with three goals.
