Vice President Joe Biden will be in Philadelphia Monday morning to address the University of Pennsylvania's 257th commencement. The ceremony will be held at Franklin Field and motorists should be prepared for traffic backups in the area. Biden will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree.

  The Penn Medicine Washington Square tower nearing completion at the corner of Eighth and Walnut Streets in Center City is a sign of big changes at Pennsylvania Hospital. About 100 doctors are scheduled in August to move their outpatient practices into the 12-story building that sits on top of a parking garage, relocating from nine locations on Pennsylvania Hospital's campus, plus the Curtis Center. In February, the clinical lab moved from three floors of the hospital to the basement, freeing space for construction of single rooms for the busy Pennsylvania Hospital maternity unit, where by Christmas every new mother will be assured of having a room to herself, officials said.

Conner Paez, who has starred in track and cross-country for Penn, is studying for a career in medicine, which means he might see some gruesome sights during his training. But there definitely won't be any sights quite as horrifying as the way his left leg looked in August 2011 after the motorcycle on which he was riding was struck by a car at an intersection in his hometown of Solon, Ohio. "When I looked at my leg, it was terrifying," recalled Paez, a junior at Penn. "The tibia in my left leg had broken in three places, and one of them was sticking out of the side of my leg. I broke every metatarsal in my foot, five of them.
