DENVER - The pregame talk centered on the supposedly inspired Denver Nuggets. 76ers coach Brett Brown even said they were playing with a little more purpose since the teams last met on Feb. 2. "They have talent," Brown said. "You look at their roster, and they're talented. . . . They have enough talent and depth to win in this league. On first glance, that's what I see. " But what 14,068 fans at the Pepsi Center witnessed was the Sixers snapping their 16-game road losing streak.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — It was the same story as usual for the 76ers. They played hard, kept things competitive, but ultimately exited their opponent's arena with a loss. This time, it was a 107-106 setback to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night at Sleep Train Arena. Down one point with 8.2 seconds left, the Sixers called a 20-second timeout. When the game resumed, they faked the ball to Robert Covington and gave the ball to Hollis Thompson. It was a play the Sixers had a lot of success with this season.

DENVER - The search for consecutive wins is finally over. The 76ers leaned on a second-quarter explosion for a 114-102 win over Denver on Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center. The win came on the heels of a road victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night, giving the Sixers back-to-back triumphs. That might not sound all that important, but for the Sixers (10-21), it was a huge milestone. They were 0-5 in games after a victory and had gone 26 games without winning back-to-back contests since opening the season with three straight wins.

DENVER - The ending was emblematic of just how things have gone for the 76ers. Leading by six points late in the game against the Denver Nuggets, the Sixers let it all slip away and lost a game they had won, falling to the Nuggets, 101-100, Thursday night at the Pepsi Center. With 7.1 seconds left and the Sixers leading, 100-98, Evan Turner missed a pair of free throws, allowing the Nuggets, who called a timeout, one last shot to win the game. Then Damien Wilkins fouled Denver's Corey Brewer as he attempted a three-pointer.

DENVER - Andre Iguodala says he doesn't want Denver to be just a stopover. The Nuggets wholeheartedly agree. The Nuggets acquired the all-star swingman from the 76ers in the blockbuster trade that sent Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers. Iguodala is under contract for this season with a player option for 2013-14. At his introductory news conference at the Pepsi Center on Thursday, he said he told Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri he wants to be here a while. "We weren't coming into this thinking this will be a one-year deal," Iguodala said.

If this 76ers season was not already disastrous, last night's near-loss could have been a disaster. The Sixers choked on a big-time fourth quarter lead and clanged free throws down the stretch, but they eventually hung on for a 108-105 victory over the injury-riddled Denver Nuggets. Denver's Aaron Afflalo missed a three-pointer with 2.9 seconds remaining, which would have capped a 16-point comeback by the Nuggets. Instead it delivered the Sixers a much-needed win. Last night's game at the Pepsi Center was the finale of a Western trip that included five games, lasted 10 days, and began Dec. 26 with a blowout loss to the Utah Jazz.

At 8 p.m., the Sixers will tip off the finale of a five-game Western road trip that started Dec. 26 against Utah and has covered four states. Yesterday, the Sixers practiced at UCLA before flying to Denver. The Sixers, 9-23 overall, are 2-2 on this trip, sandwiching blowout losses to the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers around wins over the Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings.

Perhaps the only things missing from the LeBron James-Kobe Bryant duel in the NBA Finals will be LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. One night after James' Cavaliers went down two games to one to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference final, Bryant's Lakers were routed by the underdog Denver Nuggets, 120-101, in Game 4 of their series last night at the Pepsi Center. The Western Conference final is tied at two games each. The Nuggets didn't need to worry about a botched inbounds pass in the closing seconds like the ones that cost them wins in Games 1 and 3, although Bryant had another monster fourth quarter in an attempt to put a stranglehold on the series that shifts to Los Angeles for Game 5 tomorrow night.
