Julie Harris and Brian Callahan rallied for a 15-5, 11-15, 7-15, 15-8, 15-11 victory over defending titleholders Jody Law and Andy Nehrbas in the semifinals of the Pennsylvania State Mixed Doubles Squash Racquets Championship yesterday at the Cynwyd Club. Harris and Calllahan also came from behind to defeat the husband-wife pair of Rich and Sandy Sheppard in a five-game quarterfinal. Second-seeded Joyce Davenport and Mike Pierce gained the semifinals in straight games, while Dawn Friedly and Tim Kent prevailed in four.

Top-seeded Lee Burling of Oswego, N.Y., advanced to the quarterfinal round of the U.S. Women's 55-and-over Grass Court Tennis Championship with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Peggy Landtroop of Dallas yesterday at the Wilmington Country Club. Top-seeded Betty Pratt of Longwood, Fla., progressed to the quarterfinals of the 65-and-over championship by 6-1, 6-0 over Virginia Krebs of Seattle. Pat Stuhler of Brielle, N.J., edged Connie Ebert of Philadelphia, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-0).

Jordan Hulls and Cody Zeller turned Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis into their personal stage Thursday. In the same building where the two won state high school titles, the duo ended the No. 15 Hoosiers' Big Ten tournament drought. Hulls scored 20 points, while Zeller had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Indiana (25-7) past Penn State, 75-58. Indiana ended a six-game losing streak in the tourney, a span that dated back to Mike Davis' final team in 2006. The Hoosiers' last win in Big Ten tourney play was a 61-56 decision over Wisconsin on March 10, 2006.

Bridgeton's Braheme Days' 68-foot, 11-inch shot put highlighted the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 boys' indoor track championships on Monday night at the Bennett Center in Toms River. South Jersey Group 1. Woodbury's Anthony Averett won the 55-meter dash and the high jump in the boys' competition, and Penns Grove's Faleesha Dowe (55, 400) and Haddonfield's Katherine Johnston (shot put, pole vault) were double winners in the girls' meet. Wrestling Bordentown and Point Pleasant Beach combined for 11 pins in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 1 tournament, and the Scotties prevailed, 45-30.

The pitching depth of four Inquirer top-10 baseball teams will be seriously tested tomorrow in the semifinals and final of the 26th annual Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic. All four teams - No. 1 Shawnee, No. 2 Cherry Hill East, No. 6 Bishop Eustace, and No. 8 Vineland - will be involved in state tournament games today, with each expected to use its top pitcher. Vineland is the only one of the four semifinalists that hasn't won a Diamond Classic title. Cherry Hill East has won two (1992 and 1986)

Absegami's Labe Black was crowned New Jersey's victory king last night. The senior 152-pounder recorded his 139th all-time win - eclipsing the state mark set by Paulsboro's Matt Suter in 1993 - when he earned a 5-3 decision over Sterling's Mike Barikian in the pre-quarterfinal round of the Super Region at Cherry Hill East. The state tournament will continue Friday night and conclude Saturday at the Continental Airlines Arena. Friday's quarterfinals are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Despite the anticipation that history was at hand, Black was his vintage self - calm, cool, confident and unbeatable.

Second-seeded Lee Gummeson was extended to 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 by Alison Smith in reaching the semifinals of the Eleanor Hammonds Cup Tennis Championship yesterday at the Merion Cricket Club. Earlier in the day, Gummeson defeated Paulette Elkman, 6-4, 6-0. Top-seeded Janet O'Brien progressed to the semifinals by winning two matches with a loss of only two games in each. In her second match of the day, Becky Drury defeated Florence Meyers, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, for a quarterfinal place. DOYLESTOWN OPEN Mike Simonetti of Whitford won the Doylestown Open Tennis Championship by winning nine straight games from 3-3 to defeat Richie Cohen, 6-3, 6-0, at the Doylestown Racquet Club.

Jay Sigel of Aronimink Golf Club and Dave Brookreson of Huntingdon Valley Country Club scored two victories apiece in advancing to the semifinals of the 62d annual George Arthur Crump Memorial Cup Tournament yesterday at Pine Valley Golf Club. In his quarterfinal match, Sigel, former U.S. and British Amateur champion, birdied four of the last six holes in defeating Warren Choate of Williamsport, Pa., 6 and 5. This morning, Sigel, the U.S. Walker Cup captain, meets Richard Siderowf, former British Amateur champion from Westport, Conn.

DURING 4 YEARS as a basketball star for Boys' Latin Charter, guard Maurice "Doo-Wop" Watson has been able to check out a large Wilt Chamberlain mural behind the west basket at Shepard (nee Haddington) Rec Center, where BL plays its home games and usually holds practice. Chamberlain grew up a deep threeball away at 401 N. Salford Street and basically lived in Haddington, at 57th and Haverford, while polishing his skills. Now, the two are partners in points. And "Doo-Wop" even leads "Dippy.
