We should expect more from Rod Stewart. And his adulatory audience deserves more than the self-obsessed show the 48-year-old Scot put on at the Spectrum Monday night. Early in his career, Stewart had the makings of one of the world's most affecting balladeers. With a little effort, he might have become the rock equivalent of Tony Bennett - a raspy song stylist with a gift for turning a song into a emotionally resonant event. Stewart displayed a few glimmers of that promise on Monday, the first of two nights in South Philadelphia.

ROD STEWART SUED FOR $35M The sound you just heard was rocker Rod Stewart's blood pressure rising higher than a Patriot missile. Model Kelly Emberg - his former lover and mother of Ruby, his 3-year-old daughter - has lowered the boom on Stewart, suing him for $35 million in palimony, charging breach of contract, fraudulent deceit and emotional distress. It seems the lady decided not to go quietly into that good night after being dumped by Stewart for Rachel Hunter, whom he married three months ago. Stewart and Emberg played house from 1985 to 1990.

World-famous savior Bono is getting all sartorial on us. The U2 front man, renowned for his work on poverty relief in the Third World, is partnering with his wife, Ali Hewson, to launch Edun (that's nude backwards) - a fashion line of casual wear, including jeans, T-shirts, chiffon (can you ever have enough chiffon?) dresses and shrunken blazers. But the clothes aren't just to make you look good. They'll make you feel good by introducing you to "conscious consumerism," or do-good buying.
