Alex Manderack scored three goals, including the winner, as visiting Radnor knocked off Episcopal Academy, 7-6, Friday in a nonleague boys' lacrosse game. The senior midfielder scored twice in the second half, helping the Red Raiders erase a four-goal deficit. Brendan Manderack, Alex's brother, turned away 12 saves for the win. Tyler Chambers scored three goals for Episcopal, and Peter Gayhardt added a pair. In other nonleague action: Dave Deagessian recorded three assists, and Tom Higgins scored four goals to help Marple Newtown cruise past host Archbishop Carroll, 9-5. Ian Callahan stopped nine shots to record the win. Shawn Dickey's five goals, and hat tricks by Sean Tornetta and Connor Dee carried host Perkiomen Valley over Pennridge, 14-13.

At Bryn Mawr College, Hell Week is "a week of fun and bonding between freshwomen and upperclasswomen," according to the school's website. So when Michele Rasmussen, dean of the school's undergraduate college, discovered that students of the Radnor dorm were forced to participate in such unthinkable acts as swearing alliance to a keg and being made to "listen to the Radnor goddess speech," during Hell Week, she was having none of it. It was an upset according to the seedings, but there was no doubt who the better team was in the Radnor gym Friday night. Behind a total team effort, 10th-seeded Merion Mercy easily knocked off second-seeded Radnor, 50-30, in the quarterfinals of the PIAA District 1 Class AAA girls' basketball tournament. "The rankings are what they are in terms of records," Merion coach Rob Baxter said. "I think they could have been flipped, but we are where we're supposed to be. " Merion (16-10)

The plans are by no means final, but Radnor Township residents are gearing up to fight Villanova University's proposed 1,200-student dormitory on the site of a university parking lot. The complex would include a five-story parking garage, a performing arts center, and restaurants and bookstores catering to students. Radnor officials say that the plan, in the works for a year, is in its infancy, that the university has yet to present details to the township, and that it is refining a request for zoning amendments to the site.

As far as the Radnor girls' basketball team has come this season, a little thing like a nine-point deficit in the third quarter wasn't going to be too much to overcome. Radnor came storming back in the fourth quarter to beat Conestoga, 47-39, on Monday at Marple Newtown and clinch its first-ever Central League title. After starting the season 1-4, the Red Raiders have won 17 of their last 19 games. Not a traditional basketball powerhouse, Radnor has four senior starters - Taylor Quinn, Shannon Quinn, Lindsay Price, and Kyla Crombie - who will be done with their basketball careers when the season ends.

Kyla Crombie drained a free throw with 30 seconds to play Thursday, and Radnor survived a late scare to edge Garnet Valley, 42-41, at Marple Newtown in the Central League girls' basketball semifinals. After Crombie's foul shot, the Jaguars just missed a go-ahead layup with two seconds left. Lindsay Price, a senior forward, led second-seeded Radnor with 13 points and seven rebounds. The Red Raiders never trailed, but the game was tied twice in the fourth quarter. Macy Goldbach hit a late layup to bring third-seeded Garnet Valley even at 41. Coley Ricci led the Jaguars with 18 points.

With his teammate double-teamed, Dan Rutecki emerged on the low post Tuesday night and scored the winning basket as host Springfield (Delco) edged Radnor, 35-34, in a Central League boys' basketball game. With 6.7 seconds remaining, Sean Carpenter received an inbounds pass on the left post before a double-team forced him to dish to Rutecki. The senior hit the winner with 2.7 seconds left. The inbounds play was intended for Rutecki, but he was double-teamed after rolling off a screen.

Lindsay Price came out sizzling and kept it going en route to a career-high 20 points as host Radnor beat Marple Newtown, 58-46, in a Central League girls' basketball game Monday. Price, a senior forward, scored 14 points in the first half as Radnor built a 27-21 lead. She also had eight rebounds. Myonie Williamson added 15 points. Public League. Simon Gratz kept up its strong play of late with a 54-40 win at Martin Luther King. The Bulldogs have won four straight games by double digits.
