The host Rochester Knighthawks used Shawn Williams' 10-point game to beat the Wings, 17-8, in a National Lacrosse League game last night. Leading the Wings in scoring were rookie Sean Greenhalgh with four goals and two assists. Dan Marohl, Mark Morley and Jeff Ratcliffe each had three points.

Kevin Dostie scored with 7 seconds left to lift the host Bandits to a 13-12 win over the Wings in a National Lacrosse League game Saturday night. Sean Greenhalgh, Dan Marohl, Keith Cromwell, and Athan Iannucci scored two goals each for the Wings, who play the Rochester Knighthawks in their next game, 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wachovia Center.

Tracey Kelusky had two goals and four assists against his former team. Goalie Evan Kirk made 39 saves for Philadelphia. The Wings next play the Rochester Knighthawks on Jan. 11. The Wings' home opener will be at 4p.m. Jan. 12 against Buffalo.

Drew Westervelt posted his third hat trick in as many games, but the Wings lost to the Rochester Knighthawks, 10-6, in their final 2011 home game yesterday. Though the Wings had 52 shots on goal, K-Hawk goalie Matt Vinc had 46 saves. Making his first start for the Wings, goalie Kurtis Wagar turned away 34 of 43 shots. Saturday, Dan Dawson's five goals led the host Boston Blazers past the Wings, 9-7.

The Wings gave up five goals in the fourth period in losing to the host Rochester Knighthawks, 13-10, on Saturday night. The game had critical playoff implications for both teams in search of the fourth and final Eastern Division playoff spot. With the win, the Knighthawks improved to 6-5, while the Wings dropped to 4-8. Wings forward Athan Iannucci notched a two-goal, two-assist, four-point performance to surpass 250 career points, while Ryan Boyle scored his first hat trick of the season.

The Wings will meet the Rochester Knighthawks at 7:30 tonight in a National Lacrosse League semifinal at the First Union Center. It is the first home playoff game for the Wings since they won the title in 1998. The Wings played Rochester twice in the regular season, winning by 17-16 in Rochester and by 14-12 at home. In the other semifinal, the first-place Toronto Rock (11-3) will host the fourth-place Washington Power (9-5) tomorrow. The Champions Cup final will be played next weekend at a time to be determined.

The Wings defeated the Rochester Knighthawks, 8-7, in an NLL game in front of 12,001 fans at the Wachovia Center last night. The game was tied, 6-6, as the fourth quarter opened, but Jake Bergey scored back-to-back goals to give the Wings an 8-6 lead. John Grant netted his third goal of the evening with a little less than seven minutes remaining to cut the lead to a goal, but goalie Matt Roik and the Wings' defense held off the Knighthawks for the rest of the game to hang on. The Wings improved to 7-6 and Rochester fell to 7-7.

The Wings, playing their second game in a 19-hour span, fell to the Rochester Knighthawks, 10-6, in their National Lacrosse League home finale at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday afternoon. Though the Wings (5-10) shut out Rochester (8-6) in the first quarter, the Knighthawks answered with five straight goals in the second. The Wings rallied in the second, scoring four straight, but were unable to overcome Rochester's lead. Wings forward Drew Westervelt recorded his third hat trick in three games.

It was the Wings' third straight loss after starting off 2-0. Playing at the Wells Fargo Center, the Wings got three goals from Brodie Merrill and two from former Knighthawk Jordan Hall. Kevin Buchanan had six points on a goal and five assists. Dan Dawson, who the Wings traded to Rochester in December, led the Knighthawks (2-3) with 11 points on four goals and seven assists.

A few minutes into his first weekly teleconference as head coach of the Wings, Blaine Harrison filled a brief pause with laughter. "I can see these are going to be fun," he said. The first-year boss kept his good humor earlier this week as he fielded more questions than any other coach in the National Lacrosse League. But the volume of queries reflected the uncertain position his team faces as it opens the season Saturday night with a game against the Bandits in Buffalo. The Wings finished 7-9 last season and exited in the first round of the playoffs, losing by two goals to the eventual champion Rochester Knighthawks.

The Wings ended their season in the first round of the NLL playoffs, losing to the Rochester Knighthawks, 10-8, at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y., on Saturday. It was the second year in a row that the Wings bowed out in the first round. Last year, the Knighthawks bounced the Wings out in the first round with a 14-3 victory on their way to the Champion's Cup. The Wings struggled with a slow start, trailing, 3-0, after the first quarter. The Philadelphia squad rebounded in the second quarter, scoring three straight goals on the way to a four-goal quarter.

The Wings will visit the Rochester Knighthawks this weekend in a rematch of last year's first-round opponents in the National Lacrosse League playoffs. The day and time had not been announced by Sunday night. The Knighthawks beat the Wings en route to winning the 2012 Champion's Cup. This year, the Wings (7-9) are the No. 3 seed in the East Division. Rochester (8-8) is No. 2. The Toronto Rock (10-6) clinched the top overall seed and the East's regular-season title. At the Family Circle Cup on Saturday in Charleston, S.C., Serena Williams routed Venus Williams , 6-1, 6-2, in the most one-sided match the sisters' long rivalry. Top-ranked Serena, who won her 14th straight match at Family Circle, will play for her second straight title in this tournament Sunday against Jelena Jankovic . Jankovic, the 2007 champion, defeated Stefanie Voegele , 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-2 in the other semifinal. This was the first time since 2009 the Williams sisters were playing each other in a tournament.

Kevin Buchanan didn't wait long to earn revenge against his former team. Playing his first game for the Wings in the opener of their 27th National Lacrosse League season, Buchanan contributed three goals and three assists during Friday's 13-8 win over the Buffalo Bandits at the Wells Fargo Center. Buchanan had 10 goals and 19 assists in 15 games last year in his only season with the Bandits. "It felt good," said Buchanan, playing for his fourth team in his five-year career. "I was glad I was on the Wings' side tonight.

THE WINGS are a proud franchise. In Philadelphia, a city that prides itself on toughness, fans can identify. Along with toughness and pride, the Wings have brought a winning feeling to a city with a dearth of championships. Since beginning play in 1987, the Wings have won six NLL titles, with the latest coming in 2001. But since that last championship, the Wings have been to the postseason only three times. With new faces in the locker room, the goal is to bring back that elusive title.

The Philadelphia Wings head into the 2013 season with newly acquired transition player Paul Rabil, who is widely considered to be the best lacrosse player in the world. He was traded from the Rochester Knighthawks as part of a blockbuster six-player trade that sent Wings forward Dan Dawson and defenseman Paul Dawson to the Knighthawks. The team finalized its 23-man roster Thursday. Top returnees from last season include NLL all-stars Brodie Merrill and Max Seibald and NLL rookie of the year runner-up, Kevin Crowley.
