A 16-year-old Holland boy told a Bucks County judge yesterday that he threatened to bomb Council Rock South High School because he didn't feel like going to classes that day. Ryan Miller, who has been held in the county juvenile detention center since his arrest on Nov. 14, won't be going back to school anytime soon. At a hearing yesterday in Bucks County Juvenile Court, Judge Rea B. Boylan found Miller delinquent. She gave the county's juvenile probation office 20 days to recommend suitable placement.

The Buffalo Sabres will have to continue their late-season playoff push without injured goalie Ryan Miller, who did not travel with the team yesterday as it left Buffalo to open a two-game road trip. After coach Lindy Ruff said following practice early yesterday afternoon that Miller would join the team for its flight to Washington, the Sabres announced that Miller was not on the plane. The Sabres did not provide any other details except to say that the starting goalie is still listed as day to day with what the team is strictly calling an upper-body injury.

Ryan Miller and the Buffalo Sabres knew that Mike Cammalleri was waiting to unleash one more scoring chance for the Montreal Canadiens. Miller posted his fifth shutout of the season and Tim Connolly scored the lone goal as visiting Buffalo extended its winning streak to four with a 1-0 victory over Montreal yesterday. Miller turned aside 30 shots - including Cammalleri's shot with just over 12 seconds remaining - for his second straight win after being chosen for the U.S. Olympic team on Friday.

It looks like the international hockey world got a glimpse of what the Buffalo Sabres have known all along about goalie Ryan Miller: This guy is really good. "We know him in this room, and we'll take him over any other goaltender right now in the game," Sabres backup goalie Patrick Lalime said yesterday. "He just showed the whole world what he can do. " As Miller spent the day traveling from the Vancouver Olympics directly to Pittsburgh to join the Sabres for their game against the Penguins tonight, the MVP of the Olympic tournament was the hot topic of discussion following the Sabres' brief practice in Buffalo.

Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller expressed his displeasure yesterday after being named to the U.S. Olympic hockey team's taxi squad for the Games in Turin, Italy. "I'm disappointed it worked out this way," said Miller, who had a broken thumb when the team was announced in December. "The Olympics are a great honor, and I'm sorry I'm probably going to miss out on it. I'm just moving forward with my career, and I think I'm on a good path right now. " Miller might be added to the U.S. team's 23-man roster if one of the three goaltenders chosen is injured or decides to pull out. The Flyers' Robert Esche, the Islanders' Rick DiPietro and the Lightning's John Grahame are the U.S. goalies.

Buffalo Sabres and U.S. Olympic goaltender Ryan Miller received a standing ovation before last night's game in Pittsburgh, cheers louder than those received by the Penguins' own Sidney Crosby. But Miller sat out the game, a 3-2 Penguins' victory, after playing five of the six games for the U.S. in Vancouver. Crosby was in the Penguins' lineup and assisted on the game's first goal. Crosby beat Miller to score the game-winning goal in overtime Sunday as Canada defeated the United States, also 3-2, for the gold medal.

Even among those in the vast regions of America where there is little or no interest in the NHL, Ryan Miller became a topic of conversation for two weeks in the winter of 2010. He was the goalie for the United States at the Vancouver Olympics who lifted the team into the gold-medal game on his narrow shoulders, and America's sporting public loves when one of its own stands proudly on a world stage. For the next one or two weeks, or for how long it takes the Flyers and Sabres to resolve a first-round Stanley Cup playoff series that begins Thursday at the Wells Fargo Center, Miller will again be a topic of conversation.

FLYERS SPARKPLUG Danny Briere, a former Sabre, this week called Ryan Miller the league's best goalie. Peter Laviolette, Briere's coach, made sure to note that Miller wasn't the league's only good goalie. Last night, Briere's analysis looked more accurate than his boss'. Miller, by far the brightest star on a team without many, logged his second shutout in 41 playoff games. He stopped all 35 Flyers shots in Buffalo's 1-0 win in the first game of the teams' Eastern Conference quarterfinal.

VANCOUVER - Waiting interminably for the medal ceremony to begin, Ryan Miller played the final goal over and over and over again. His eyes would close. His head would drop. He would shake his head, look to the reddened stands, wipe his reddened eyes and repeat the process all over again. "The puck got caught in the ref's feet or someone's feet," he would say later, his eyes still wide open, like a man in shock. "Got to Sidney's stick. He had his head down for a second and . . . " And, and, and - well, the game every fan in America wanted to see ended with the result that none, not even those in Pittsburgh, wanted.

VANCOUVER - There are two good reasons that 137 players were chosen before Ryan Miller was selected in the 1999 draft. One is the number of goalies who left Michigan State with the stingiest of statistics, only to become incredibly generous once they reached the NHL. The other is how he looked. "I remember the first time I saw him play, and I was struck by how skinny he was," Team USA GM Brian Burke said the other day. "Even now, the guy should be doing ads for one of those weight-loss things.
