THE SOUL have changed their uniforms. After last year's miserable season, they probably ought to burn the old ones. How the team performs with a new coaching staff and an overhauled roster remains to be seen. But at least they'll look snazzy. Dan Raudabaugh (No. 5) is the new quarterback, and he largely will be responsible for putting the 6-12 record the Soul posted in 2011 well into the rearview mirror. New coach Doug Plank and the Soul open the new season on Sunday at New Orleans.

The road can be a daunting place to win, especially in the Arena Football League, where last year even the best teams could do no better than break even away from home during the regular season. Even the champion Colorado Crush were 6-2 at home and 4-4 away. Now the Soul, after much home cooking, will hit the road for an extended period. The Soul have four straight road games, beginning tonight at Las Vegas against the Gladiators. In the following weeks, the Soul will visit Kansas City, Columbus and Dallas before returning home March 31 for a game against the Austin Wranglers.

DEFENSIVE BACK Kent Richardson tied a team-record for most interceptions in a game as he pulled in three passes to give the Soul a 61-55 win Saturday over the San Jose Sabercats. "Those three interceptions, that was the difference in the game," said Soul coach Doug Plank. The game got off to a slow start, and the Sabercats put the first points on the board, with Mark Grieb throwing a 7-yard touchdown pass to James Roe with less than 5 minutes left in the first quarter.
