Big East Conference members Boston College and the University of Pittsburgh yesterday named new head basketball coaches. As expected, Pitt named Paul Evans, who coached Navy to the final of the NCAA Eastern Regional this year, and Boston College chose former BC player Jim O'Brien, who was the head coach at St. Bonaventure. Evans, 41, replaces Roy Chipman, who retired. Evans had a 30-5 season that ended Sunday with a loss to Duke in the Eastern Regional final. In six seasons at Navy, Evans compiled a 119-60 record.
