The Web was everywhere in the story of Michael Jackson's passing. From TMZ.com, a celebrity gossip site that broke the news, to Amazon.com, where Jackson CDs sold out within minutes, the death brought front and center how the Web has transformed the way people get information and act on it. Just as mourners for Princess Diana placed flowers at the gate of Buckingham Palace in 1997, Web users sent out tweets, instant messages, Facebook posts,...

SO MUCH NEWS this week we didn't get into such as the ongoing collateral damage resulting from the recent cyber attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment. Hackers revealed actress Jennifer Lawrence received a lower salary than her male "American Hustle" co-stars and posted emails between Sony co-chair Amy Pascal and movie producer Scott Rudin joking about President Obama 's favorite films. They sounded a little bit racist to some. Read on for more celeb news. Yesterday Scott Stapp , the troubled former Creed front man, claimed to be a CIA agent with one mission in mind: assassinate President Obama , according to a 9-1-1 recording obtained by TMZ. The singer's estranged wife, Jaclyn Stapp , and his sister-in-law called 9-1-1 frantically late last month after he left the house shirtless and began to ride around his Boca Raton, Fla., neighborhood saying he wanted to assassinate Obama, according to a recording released by TMZ. Police determined Stapp didn't show enough signs of mental instability so they did not place him on a psych-hold.

Athletes and Twitter. It's a train wreck waiting to happen. For some reason, sports professionals, both men and women, turn into twits when they tweet. The latest example is ex-NBA star Steve Francis who - according to a police report obtained by TMZ - allegedly groped 20-year-old Shauna Simien in Texas in May of 2010. The police report indicated that Simien filed a complaint immediately after the alleged incident. The woman told TMZ that she is a singer who had signed with Francis' record label and was meeting with him on the day of the alleged assault.

The Denver Post reported in 2011 that his Colorado home went into foreclosure after he stopped paying the mortgage while owing well over $2 million. I DON'T BELIEVE for a hot minute that no one from the NFL ever saw the video of Ray Rice cold-cocking fiancée Janay Palmer last Valentine's Day weekend. If TMZ could get hold of the footage - which shows Palmer, now Rice's wife, taking a punch that slams her into the wall of an elevator at Atlantic City's now-closed Revel Casino Hotel - it's a joke that the NFL's powerful legal eagles couldn't get hold of it, too. But, fine, let's go with the fairy tale. Let's believe that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell imposed an indefinite suspension on Rice as a result of seeing that horrific TMZ video yesterday for the first time.

WE DON'T KNOW if Kobe Bryant uttered the traditional words "for better or worse," when he wed soon-to-be ex-wife Vanessa. But if so, he couldn't have imagined "worse" could be this bad. According to the Los Angeles Times, Vanessa Bryant - who filed for divorce from the former Lower Merion star last month - just received three mansions worth more than $18 million as part of a pending settlement. The Times cited experts as saying that's only a small portion of the $75 million - not counting spousal and child support - she is expected to receive when the divorce is final.
