Rege returning, Dave his guest Regis Philbin, six weeks removed from triple heart-bypass surgery, plans to be back at work Thursday morning as cohost of Live With Regis and Kelly. Philbin's first guest will be David Letterman, also a veteran of bypass surgery. "Very appropriate," Philbin's cohost, Kelly Ripa, said as she announced her partner's return yesterday. Philbin, 75, filled in as a guest host on CBS's Late Show after Letterman had his bypass operation in 2000.

Kiefer, a broken nose, and Brooke Nobody's calling for a congressional investigation, but when it comes to controversy Kiefer Sutherland may be starting to rival Jack Bauer, the terrorism fighter he plays on 24. Sutherland, 42, has been charged with head-butting fashion designer Jack McCollough in a bit of early-morning fun Tuesday at tony New York nightspot SubMercer. Word was that KS had taken offense because McCollough jostled Brooke Shields and knocked her over. Except that's not exactly how it happened, reports celeb gossip site TMZ.com.

There was thievery this weekend at the box office, with Identity Thief stealing the No. 1 spot. Starring Jason Bateman , Jon Favreau , and Melissa McCarthy , director Seth Gordon 's R-rated road comedy was eviscerated by critics, but it raked in $36.6 mil in its opening weekend, according to studio estimates. The Wackness helmer Jonathan Levine 's Warm Bodies , described as a "paranormal romantic zombie comedy," took No. 2 with $11.5 mil. NEED FIREWORKS for the Fourth of July? Until yesterday, Gilbert Arenas would have been your man. That was before the ex-NBA star was discovered with a pickup truck full of fireworks after being pulled over for speeding in Los Angeles by the California Highway Patrol. According to a TMZ report, he was arrested for speeding (doing 80 mph), driving without a license, and possession of illegal fireworks. A TMZ cameraman said approximately 20 cartons of fireworks were removed from the bed of the pickup.

DID ANYONE ever pat you on the back for paying your taxes? We only ask, because TMZ decided to praise Terrell Owens for reportedly paying the $438,913.52 he owed on a federal tax lien. "A man of honor . . . ," TMZ wrote yesterday. "T.O. kicked the crap out of the lien and paid it all off . . . every last cent. " A man of honor? Last we checked you're supposed to pay your taxes.   Blood money? After tight end Aaron Hernandez was charged with murder, the Patriots' official pro shop allowed fans to exchange his No. 81 jersey for that of another player free of charge.

Almost everyone's gone: Simon Cowell , Steven Tyler , and Jennifer Lopez have left American Idol . And according to the New York Post and TMZ, Randy Jackson is off the judges' table. The Post says Jackson is peeved at producers' decision to shrink his role to that of musical mentor. As of Friday, Idol 's on-camera staff consists of a paltry two, Ryan Seacrest and newbie Mariah Carey .                 Heidi Klum's guardlove Heidi Klum , 39, whose glorious übermodelhood keeps us going, has found her post- Seal bounceback beau.

DENNIS RODMAN doesn't like to sit still. The U.S. ambassador to the world - who visited with North Korea's supreme leader Kim Jong Un last month - is off to Rome, where he hopes to get an audience with the new pope. Of course, the cardinals haven't actually elected a new pontiff, but why let details get in the way of a good story. Rodman told TMZ on Tuesday that his "people" are trying to arrange a get-together with whoever succeeds Pope Benedict XVI. "I want to be anywhere in the world that I'm needed," Rodman told TMZ. " . . . I want to spread a message of peace and love throughout the world.

Another chapter has been added to the Allen Iverson saga. The former 76ers star is being accused by his ex-wife, Tawanna Iverson, of abducting his own children, according to several media reports. The website TMZ first reported the story. Tawanna Iverson filed court documents in Atlanta claiming that her ex-husband failed to return their five children, who range in age from 3 to 16, after a five-day vacation in Charlotte, N.C. Iverson is fighting the allegations in court, TMZ reported.

Vanessa Hudgens (right) was once again nabbed for posting nudie picks online. This is becoming a biennial event for Hudgens, who got too randy with her digital camera in 2007 and 2009. But in Version 3.0, she has a partner-in-crime - "Zoey 101" starlet Alexa Nikolas , with whom Hudgens is caught locking lips. Usually Hudgens comes out a couple of days after the fact with her "I'm, like, so super sorry to the fans that I have let them down by doing something I wouldn't be sorry about it they weren't aware of it. " But Lady Tattle smells a setup.

These are strange times indeed, folks, in the celebrity game. The worst publicity has now become the best kind of publicity you can get. Every time this month, for instance, that TMZ sent out a new gossip bulletin on Lindsay Lohan was a red-letter day for Lifetime. It represented another quarter-million viewers for the Liz Taylor biopic Lohan is currently shooting for the channel. Or take Charlie Sheen. After one of the most depraved runs of misbehavior by a major performer ever, he returns in a new sitcom to rapt curiosity and surprising good will.
