These are strange times indeed, folks, in the celebrity game. The worst publicity has now become the best kind of publicity you can get. Every time this month, for instance, that TMZ sent out a new gossip bulletin on Lindsay Lohan was a red-letter day for Lifetime. It represented another quarter-million viewers for the Liz Taylor biopic Lohan is currently shooting for the channel. Or take Charlie Sheen. After one of the most depraved runs of misbehavior by a major performer ever, he returns in a new sitcom to rapt curiosity and surprising good will.

George Clooney , who seems to be everywhere these days, led a demonstration against the government of Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir Friday outside Sudan's embassy in D.C. It wasn't long before the cops clapped Georgie in cuffs and led him away. What did his mom, Nina Clooney , think of the prospect of his arrest? "He's a big boy. He'll be OK. " Yes, he will. So will his dad, Nick Clooney , who also got arrested. George has been active investigating reports of war crimes by Bashir, reports that outspoken George says are true.

In a much-touted chat with Oprah , Barbadian beauty Rihanna speaks at length about her 2009 assault at the hands of former bf Chris Brown . "Everything I knew switched in a night, and I couldn't control that," Rihanna says in the interview, set to air Sunday night on OWN. "It was a weird, confusing space to be in because as angry as I was - angry, hurt, and betrayed," she says. Rihanna says she was concerned Brown would be demonized rather than receive the help he needed to deal with his anger.

Hollywood titan Gene Hackman , 81, was recovering nicely Friday after being hit by a car while walking his bike. The Oscar-winner, who has been featured in 100 films including The Conversation and Unforgiven , was on a bicycle outing in the Florida Keys when the accident occurred, reports TMZ. "Gene was airlifted to the hospital for routine tests," his rep tells E!News. "Everything is fine and Gene is on his way home now with a few bumps and bruises. "   Paula Deen has diabetes?

More members of the Kardashian Horde have exited the nest to begin feasting on the culture. USA Today says Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner's youngest daughters, Kendall, 16, and Kylie, 14, are joining Kim, Kris, and Khloé's deadly takeover of the kollective konsciousness. The teens have landed jobs as, um, journalists. They've been named West Coast fashion contributors to Seventeen mag. "Kendall & Kylie's Fashion Journal" debuts in the June/July issue and features the latest fashion and beauty tips, the mag says.

British authorities have decided not to prosecute Aussie DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian , who impersonated members of the royal family in a prank call to London's King Edward VII's Hospital on Dec. 4. Posing as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles , they asked after the pregnant Kate Middleton . Jacintha Saldanha , the nurse who originally took the call, committed suicide three days later. (The reasons have never been clarified.) Reports suggested the DJs might be charged with manslaughter, but prosecutors on Friday said there were no grounds.

Every man, woman, child, household pet, and domesticated farmyard animal on the planet (with the exception of yours truly) watched Sunday's Super Bowl game, which saw the New York Giants fell the mighty New England Patriots, 21-17. It was the most-watched program in U.S. TV history, drawing an average of 111.3 mil domestic viewers, according to Nielsen SoundScan ( Madonna 's halftime show drew 114 mil). Global numbers aren't in, but we imagine they are spectacular.   Twitter-twitter-twitter the NFL Sunday's game also broke the Twitter record, indicating that many, many people tweeted about the contest, an indication, says Inc.com, that it was a most important cultural phenom.

Robin Roberts , who has been sharing her battle with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with the public, on Monday told fans she returned home this weekend after a week in the hospital. "A latent virus," such as many bone-marrow transplant patients have to face, "was not responding to medication," the Good Morning America anchor wrote in a surprise update on Facebook. "Our immune systems usually take care of a virus like this . . . but mine is only 59 days old. Physically I felt fine but being back in the hospital took an emotional toll on me. " Roberts, 51, underwent a bone-marrow transplant in September.
