Reserve Svetlana Abrosimova scored 20 points, and Swin Cash added 18 to lead the Seattle Storm to a 111-65 victory over the Tulsa Shock on Saturday night, the biggest rout in WNBA history. Seattle's 46-point victory topped by one point a win by the Houston Comets over Washington in 1998. "We played the best team and they just spanked us," said coach Nolan Richardson . "It was the worst spanking we've had to tell you the truth. " Los Angeles Sparks forward Tina Thompson became the WNBA's all-time leading scorer against the San Antonio Silver Stars in Los Angeles.

Jennifer Yee hit a two-run home run and Melanie Matthews doubled in two more runs as Canada (2-3) snapped the United States' 22-game winning streak in the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City with a 5-2 victory Sunday night in a game that had more than three hours of rain delays. The U.S. pitching staff hadn't allowed a run or an extra-base hit in 28 innings in this year's World Cup before Matthews laced a double through the infield that got past rightfielder Kaitlin Cochran . That started a five-run third inning for the Canadians, the most runs allowed in a World Cup game by the Americans - let alone an inning.

Kaye Cowher, the wife of ex-Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher and a former basketball player at North Carolina State and in the now-defunct Women's Professional Basketball League, has died of skin cancer. She was 54. Cowher died Friday in her native North Carolina, where the family relocated at her urging during Cowher's final year as coach in 2006, one season after the Steelers won the Super Bowl. "Kaye was such a loving and compassionate person and she was the foundation of our family," Bill Cowher, now an NFL analyst with CBS, said in a statement.

THE BIGGEST offseason in NBA history has begun. By the time you read this column, the power structure of the league already might have been drastically altered. Several hours ago, when June 30 became July 1, the most historic free-agent class in the NBA, in all of American sports, officially hit the market. Although contracts can't be signed until July 8, the first phone calls with offers were probably made seconds after the clock struck midnight, 9 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

Tracy McGrady asked to go back in, believing he could help pull out a victory over the team that hadn't wanted him anymore. Instead, the day belonged to the players the Houston Rockets acquired when they shipped out McGrady. Kevin Martin scored 28 points, Jared Jeffries and rookie Jordan Hill played key roles down the stretch, and visiting Houston rallied to beat the New York Knicks, 116-112, yesterday. The Rockets acquired Martin from Sacramento, and Hill and Jeffries from New York last month in a three-team deal at the trade deadline.

The difference between the 76ers' roster today and their roster Thursday morning - a few hours before the NBA's trading deadline - did little to appease a disgruntled fan base. The swap of bench players with the Milwaukee Bucks, the surrender of a second-round draft pick, the acquisition of guard Jodie Meeks, a second-round pick last summer - all this move accomplished was to enrage the hometown faithful even more than doing nothing at all. For Sixers fans, it was probably a little like hearing the doorbell ring and then finding no one standing outside - piqued interest, then disappointment, then annoyance.

A big trade deadline day has the New York Knicks in position for a bigger score in July. The Knicks acquired Tracy McGrady in a three-team deal and shipped Nate Robinson out in another trade, but the makeup of this season's roster is secondary. New York was able to trade Jared Jeffries in the McGrady deal, removing $6.9 million from next season's payroll and putting the Knicks on the verge of being able to offer two maximum salary contracts this summer, when LeBron James can headline the free-agent class.

With the NBA's Feb. 18 trade deadline approaching, the rumors have been circulating around 76ers swingman Andre Iguodala. A source close to the situation has confirmed that the Houston Rockets, owners of Tracy McGrady's expiring $23 million contract, will only discuss a possible deal with the Sixers if it involves Iguodala. And about a week ago, ESPN.com linked Iguodala in a possible deal involving the Cleveland Cavaliers. After this season, Iguodala has more than $56 million remaining on his contract, including three more seasons - and a player option for a fourth.

Unwanted by their teams, Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady are still adored by their fans. The Memphis Grizzlies quickly parted ways with Iverson earlier this season before he signed with the 76ers, and the Houston Rockets are trying to trade McGrady. Maybe the players can swap stories of their rocky roads while covering each other at the All-Star Game. Despite having little to no impact this season, both went into the final hours of voting in position to start in the Feb. 14 game at Dallas, thanks to loyal fans who still consider them stars.
