The Sixers open training camp today at Saint Joseph's University. Let's repeat that in case it gets lost in the shuffle of the Phillies trying to clinch their third straight division title and the buzz that always surrounds the local pro football team: The Sixers open training camp today. The Sixers might be under the radar in this city due to the success of the aforementioned teams, lest we forget about the high hopes for the Flyers, too. But that's OK with them. Whether they go unnoticed by local sports fans or anyone else who follows the NBA, it's really OK with them.

To hit or not to hit? At NFL training camps, that's always a big question. The Eagles are one of the few teams that have live hitting sessions during training camp, and the reality is that means there is greater risk for injury. For years, the Eagles have had players go down with varying degrees of injuries during the full-contact sessions, with the latest being middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, who suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament to his right knee during the team's Flight Night practice Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

When the Eagles conclude today's "voluntary" workout, the next time they will be getting together will be on Tuesday at West Chester University for their opening meeting of official training camp. But as many as 12 Eagles who answered coach Buddy Ryan's call for volunteers over the last three weeks may be AWOL. With yesterday's signing of rookie draft picks Eric Everett, a fifth-round cornerback, and Joe Schuster, a 10th-round defensive tackle, the Eagles now have two draft picks and 10 veteran free agents unsigned.
