Ernest Parnetti, of Downingtown, thought he should have won Delaware Park's twin trifecta Wednesday afternoon. He went to the paddock, saw a horse he liked had bandages on his front legs and changed his mind. The horse won - but Parnetti didn't. Parnetti was determined not to make the same mistake again. "I did my handicapping (for yesterday) the night before," Parnetti said. "This time, I didn't change my mind. " And this time, Ernest Parnetti got the money. Big money.

The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission removed a jockey from Tuesday's ninth race at Philadelphia Park after another rider claimed that the jockey attempted to fix the outcome of the trifecta event. John D'Agusto, a 39-year-old Philadelphia native, said yesterday that he was approached by another rider in the jockeys' room Monday morning. D'Agusto contends that the other jockey said, "I know how we can make a lot of money. I finish behind you every time. We're probably the favorites; you're the favorite.

Given up for dead in 1983, Delaware Park made a less-than-auspicious comeback in 1984. Last year, favorable conditions combined with new management and an agressive promotional and marketing campaign led to a very successful and marginally profitable meet. This year, the acid test. Delaware Park opens its 49th season Saturday. The 100-day meet, which includes the return of the Grade I Delaware Handicap, simulcasts of nine major stakes, including the Triple Crown, and the double-your-pleasure twin trifecta, ends Sept.
