Regina Carr's last few breaths came as an aching, hollow sound from deep inside her chest, her accused killer, Shane Wheale, testified yesterday. "She made a hollow noise. It was like aaaaaaahhhh," he said, making a long, breathy sound for the jury. "I grabbed her. I smacked her," said Wheale, wailing. "I got scared and more scared and more scared. I just wanted to wake her up. " Wheale said he tried to resuscitate Carr but couldn't. "I didn't know what I wanted to do. I just wanted to go home," Wheale said, describing how he then left her lifeless in her car, turned his back and ran home.

Rick Pitino , worried that his wife and children would find out he had a one-night stand with a woman he met in a bar, acknowledged Thursday that he didn't immediately tell police about demands for cars, cash, and housing in order to keep the tryst secret. The Louisville basketball coach told jurors he kept quiet for nearly two months, hoping he could "contain" the damaging information. Intimate details emerged over the last two days as Pitino, 57, testified against the woman, Karen Cunagin Sypher , 50, at her federal extortion trial in Louisville, Ky. He recounted the sex, the threatening calls he said left him "sick to my stomach," and strongly denied allegations he raped Sypher.

A new book puts Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the sack with Frank Sinatra, but the ex-first lady's bud and former chief of staff, Letitia Baldridge, doubts it. "I'm sure it never happened," she said. "It's total hearsay, fabrication, cocktail party chitchat . . . that then becomes fact in somebody's book. " In Sinatra: Behind the Legend, J. Randy Taraborrelli places the tryst in September 1975, after a Big Apple concert starring Sinatra, Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald, followed by a stop at the "21" club.

GEORGES Perrier looks like he needs a hug. We're sitting at a table in Le Bec-Fin's grand dining room, gilded as ever, underneath those familiar, ornate chandeliers. We're drinking lukewarm mineral water as Perrier smokes what he calls a "cheap" cigar and fidgets with two pill bottles of prescription medicine. Outside, it's a gloomy, rainy afternoon in advance of Hurricane Irene. Inside, things aren't much sunnier. "I'm 67 years old," Perrier says. "Next year I might be dead. I am not the future.

A cross-country affair between a South Jersey teenager and a Washington state woman he met playing an Internet video game ended after federal authorities filed pornography charges against the woman. Jessica Pearce, 34, of Centralia, Wash., made her first appearance Friday in U.S. District Court in Camden, where bail was continued, and she was permitted to remain free with electronic monitoring. MIAMI - An 18-year-old Florida cheerleader is facing felony charges that she had sexual contact with her underage, 14-year-old girlfriend, leading gay-rights advocates to say the teen is being unfairly targeted for a common high-school romance because she's gay. The criminal case against Kaitlyn Hunt is unusual because it involves two females, not an older male and a younger female. But advocates say older high schoolers dating their younger counterparts is an innocuous, everyday occurrence that is not prosecuted - regardless of sexual orientation - and not a crime on par with predatory sex offenses.

"Smile. " With that bit of advice - and a final spritz and fluff of her ebony fur - from owner Maria Wright, Ilsa the Bernese mountain dog was ready for the judges at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia show yesterday at the Convention Center. The 95-pound Painsville, Ohio, champion was as talented as she was beautiful, having once pulled her own weight for a half-mile over four types of terrains. In her spare time, she visits ailing youngsters at a Cleveland hospital. "She does everything," said Wright, a machine programmer, who has owned Ilsa about two years.

A former call girl has served up a lathery account of a hot-tub-a-trois with a top actress and a beefcake actor. Desiree Taylor, 27, told a London tabloid, the People, she's ready to tell all about her career in alleged Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss' flock, but she identified her hot-tub customers only by allowing that the actor is a household name, one of the world's most desirable men, and a member of a well- known show-biz family. Taylor said the couple relaxed her with champagne before the actress paddled over and, using her teeth, removed the call girl's bikini top. Taylor said the actor just watched at first, but then he nuzzled one bared breast as the woman nuzzled the other.

Question: Do you think there is any reasonable explanation for a spouse to spend 7 to 10 hours a week on the phone or texting with someone of the opposite sex who they met online? Dear Spouse has several three-hour phone calls a week, and texts when the rest of the family is not around (deletes history ... ). I've asked about this several times, and expressed my concern that there is more than just a friendship brewing, but have been shut down and told not to invade Spouse's privacy.
