BOSTON - The Boston Bruins still have Tim Thomas, and they've added something they think might be even more important as they try to repeat as Stanley Cup champions. "It's called experience," coach Claude Julien said of the lessons he learned in the Bruins' title run last year. "Once you've got that experience, it makes you a better coach, and the experience I gained last year, I certainly hope to be able to utilize to my advantage this year. " The Bruins won their first NHL championship since 1972 last year, thanks largely to the Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophy-winning Thomas and some young forwards who emerged during the postseason.

BOSTON - Tyler Seguin knew that something had to be said, and he was pretty sure it wouldn't be fit for public consumption. The Chicago Blackhawks badly outplayed Boston in the first period of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals Saturday night, outshooting the Bruins by 19-4. Afterward, the Boston forward ditched the microphone he had been wearing as part of the telecast. Then he headed back into the dressing room so the team could hash out its problems in peace. "It was really a mix of everybody saying something," Seguin said.

It took a promising rookie benched for the Boston Bruins' first 11 playoff games to stop the Tampa Bay Lightning's run of eight straight wins. Speedy, shifty Tyler Seguin had two goals and two assists in his second game back and Boston fended off visiting Tampa Bay's late offensive pressure for a 6-5 win that tied the Eastern Conference finals at 1-1 last night. Just 19, the No. 2 pick in last year's draft energized the Bruins and thrilled the spectators. He was an onlooker himself in Boston's first two series because of defensive shortcomings.

They allowed three goals in a span of 2 minutes, 18 seconds of the first period en route to a 3-0 loss to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. "We're not happy with where we are, and it would be real easy to just point fingers and kind of quit at this point," forward Danny Briere said after coach Peter Laviolette held a 20-minute closed-door meeting with the players.
