An elderly couple died in a fire that tore through their single family home in Willingboro, Burlington County, this morning, according to law enforcement. The blaze broke out in a two-story home on the unit block of Millbrook Dr. about 6 a.m. and the couple was trapped inside. Power was out in the neighborhood at the time because of Hurricane Sandy. The couple's identity was not immediately released. Several media reports say the couple might have been using a generator for power.

A multiple-alarm fire raged through at least eight rowhouses in the unit block of West Philadelphia Avenue in Morrisville, Bucks County, late Saturday night. Authorities said the fire was first reported about 10 p.m. and within an hour had engulfed at least eight of 21 homes in the block. Dozens of residents had been evacuated, according to a county police dispatching supervisor, who said there were no reports of injuries. - George Anastasia

A man died and two firefighters suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out late last night at the Melrose shopping center in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County. Montgomery County dispatch logs show the fire was reported about 11 Thursday night in a 911 call. The two-alarm blaze broke out during what was initially reported as a small explosion in a beauty supply store in the strip mall on the unit block of East Cheltenham Avenue. The fire was brought until control about 4:37 a.m., but was still burning an hour later.

Police in Lansdale Borough have arrested 34 young people as part of a crackdown on loud, underage drinking parties, the department said today. "We have never tolerated underage drinking, but this is one of our biggest underage arrests that I can recall in my 20 years with the department," said police Sgt. Alex Kromdyk. Officers responded to the report of a noisy party on Friday, April 6, at 11:40 p.m. in the 200 block of Pennbrook Avenue, Lansdale, after neighbors complained of a disorderly gathering next door.

A 24-year-old man was in critical condition after crashing his ATV into a tree Tuesday afternoon in Camden County, police said. Stephen Smarrito, 24, was transported to Cooper University Hospital after his ATV struck a tree on Ridge Avenue about 4:35 p.m. Police did not provide a precise location for the crash. Smarrito lives in the unit block of Ridge Avenue, police said. The accident was being investigated by the Gloucester Township Police Department Serious Crash Investigation Team.

A Glassboro woman who police said was shot dead in her home by her ex-husband late Monday had complained that he had been stalking and harassing her, authorities said. Rita Sawyer, 53, contacted Glassboro police last week but did not seek a restraining order against Charles Sawyer, 58, said a spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor's office. Glassboro patrol officers were alerted June 27 to watch for Charles Sawyer's presence near the woman's home on the unit block of Sherwood Lane.

A feud between two Montgomery County residents led to the death of an Abington man who was shot Tuesday night. William Butler, 27, was shot in the back as he ran from Andre Dula about 9:30 p.m. on the unit block of North Hills Avenue in the North Hills section of Abington Township, District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said. Witnesses told police there had been an ongoing dispute between Butler and Dula. On Tuesday night, witnesses said, Dula pulled out a handgun as Butler ran away.

    A Montgomery County man who threatened to commit suicide barricaded himself inside his house for four hours early Wednesday before surrendering to police. The incident occurred in the unit block of Abbeyview Avenue in the Willow Grove section of Upper Moreland Township, according to police. The unidentified man indicated he wanted an armed confrontation with police, prompting a response from a SWAT team and negotiators. About 8 a.m. the man surrendered and was transported to the Montgomery County Emergency Services facility, in West Norriton Township, for evaluation.

An officer-involved shooting that took the life of a Chester man was justified, the Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday. On Aug. 5, Daniel Simms, 21, died after he was shot by a Chester police officer. According to the District Attorney's Office, Simms pointed a loaded handgun at the officer. The officer, who was not identified, "discharged his service revolver. " The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. in the unit block of 23d Street. Simms lived in the neighborhood.

A Gloucester County woman died early this morning, shortly after she was discovered by firefighters who responded to a blaze in her Washington Township home. Darlene J. Starrett, 56, was pronounced dead at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, according to a spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office. She was found inside her single-family residence on the unit block of Golfview Drive by firefighters responding to a 12:30 a.m. call. The house was fully engulfed in flames. Officials at the scene said that Starrett was apparently alive when she was carried down a ladder by rescuers.

A 65-year-old Cherry Hill man has been charged with illegally possessing weapons and related charges after shots were fired inside his home early Friday afternoon. Stephen Menyhar, of the unit block of Tearose Lane, was inside the house when officers arrived just after noon, police said in a news release Saturday morning, which did not include a motive for the shooting. Shots had been fired inside the house, police said, and the department responded with a SWAT team and other units to surround the house.

Instead of telling authorities about the dead woman he said he discovered in his bathroom, a 41-year-old Williamstown man drove about 10 miles with the body in the backseat of her car before abandoning the vehicle and her corpse on a residential street in Berlin Township, authorities said. Andrew McCloskey, of the 600 block of Riviera Drive, has been charged with the illegal disposal of a body, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday According to authorities, McCloskey met the 40-year-old Atco woman in January 2012 and she went home with him to the unit block of Harrell Avenue in Williamstown.

When Moses Walker Jr.'s body is laid to rest Monday, it will not be the first time the fallen police officer's family has gathered amid tragedy. Walker's younger brother, Montague, was 20 when he was found on a sidewalk in the Carroll Park section of West Philadelphia with multiple gunshot wounds on March 17, 2001. Found on the 5400 block of Master Street at 2:57 p.m., Montague Walker was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead several hours later.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in Northeast Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, police said. George Cobb was charged today with murder and related offenses in the death of Donald Mines, of the 1300 block of Wells Street in the Castor section. Police said Cobb shot Mines in the chest during an argument on the block where the victim lived about 4:20 p.m. Medics pronounced Mines dead at the scene. Cobb lives nearby on the 1400 block of Fanshawe Street.
