Buffalo's Jonas Jennings and Chris Villarrial accused New England linebacker Vince Wilfork of taking cheap shots at them. Jennings, a tackle, said yesterday that he still was feeling lightheaded after sustaining a concussion, the result of a helmet-to-helmet hit from Wilfork behind the play in New England's 31-17 victory Sunday. Jennings said he was blindsided and that the collision cracked his helmet near the jaw. It happened in the third quarter, just after the Bills' Drew Bledsoe completed a 6-yard pass to Eric Moulds.

New England Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork has been fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness during the AFC championship game, his fourth fine of the season. The NFL acted after Wilfork received a 15-yard penalty for grabbing the face mask of Chargers running back Michael Turner with his right hand during the Patriots' 21-12 win over San Diego last Sunday. The fine brings Wilfork's total to $37,500 this season. Wilfork, a first-round draft choice out of Miami in 2004, was fined $12,500 for a low, late hit on quarterback J.P. Losman on Buffalo's first series of the third game.

DOWN THREE points. Barely 2 minutes left. One thought on Tom Brady's mind. "You can't not get the ball in the end zone," the master of late comebacks said. That's where he got it, throwing an 8-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Hernandez with 22 seconds left and giving the New England Patriots a 20-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys yesterday in Foxborough, Mass. "He's probably one of the toughest competitors I've ever seen, especially from a quarterback standpoint," Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork said.

New England Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork was fined $12,500 yesterday by the NFL for his low, late hit on Bills quarterback J.P. Losman. Losman sprained his left knee during the play Sunday and is expected to miss at least 2 weeks. Wilfork was penalized on the play in the Patriots' 38-7 win. "A lot of people say that was a cheap shot," Wilfork said yesterday before he was alerted about the fine. "I'm far from a dirty player. If you know me as a person, you'd understand that.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Big-yardage games are becoming routine for Tom Brady. So is setting records. Brady threw for 423 yards yesterday - 6 days after setting a single-game team record of 517 - and led the New England Patriots to a 35-21 win over the San Diego Chargers. "It seems like he's always great," linebacker Rob Ninkovich said. "He's the best quarterback in the league. " The club record he shattered in the season opener at Miami had stood for 51 years. The NFL mark for most yards passing in the first two games of a season, 854, lasted about 3 hours.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - And so there they stood, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, the NFL's iconic duo, the symbol of success in the free-agency era, models of consistency and innovation and unquestioned football brilliance. There they stood on a stage at a dais and waxed eloquent on their 15 years of shared success with New England, how they have grown as fathers and tacticians, how they better appreciate now what they often assumed in the past. There they stood, benefactors of the two most remarkable cheating scandals in American professional sports history.

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Tom Brady and Vince Wilfork are the only two New England players with Patriots Super Bowl rings. They earned them 10 years ago in Jacksonville, as Eagles fans all too vividly recall. That 24-21 victory over the Birds brought home the Pats' third championship trophy in 4 years. Yesterday Wilfork, who was a rookie starter at nose tackle that night, acknowledged that he'd figured on having several more rings by now. "Oh yeah," Wilfork said yesterday, as the Patriots prepared for Sunday's Super Bowl XLIX meeting with the defending champion Seattle Seahawks.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Try to shove massive Vince Wilfork out of the middle. Tough to do, isn't it? The 325-pound Pro Bowl tackle keeps sticking around. Wilfork is the only defensive starter left from the New England Patriots last Super Bowl team four years ago. This season, he's rarely come off the field. And why should he? He's earned all that playing time by crunching runners, charging quarterbacks, and clogging holes that offensive linemen struggle to open. "He's been huge," coach Bill Belichick said.

Defense wins championships, or so the saying goes. But several playoff teams still alive entering this weekend defy that old maxim, while the 8-8 Eagles watch from home despite having a defense that finished eighth in yards allowed and, more importantly, 10th in points. Only three defenses alive entering the weekend were better in those categories. Meanwhile, the Packers and Patriots rank 32d and 31st in yards allowed and won the top seeds in their conferences. Somewhere, Buddy Ryan is probably swearing.

RANDY MOSS and Corey Dillon were malcontents when they joined the New England Patriots. Rodney Harrison arrived with a reputation as a dirty, washed-up player. All of them fit in very well with their new team. Now it seems Albert Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco are coming and "The Patriot Way" will be tested once again. After a seasonlong feud with Washington coach Mike Shanahan, Haynesworth, a 335-pound defensive tackle, was traded by the Redskins yesterday for a fifth-round draft choice in 2013, a source confirmed to the Associated Press . Later yesterday, a source confirmed that the Patriots had obtained Ochocinco, the colorful receiver from Cincinnati, and that he agreed to a new 3-year contract.
