At some point early in the second half, Mike Reardon lifted his balky right shoulder and tapped his coach on the back. "He told me he wanted more minutes," West Deptford boys' lacrosse coach Mike Yarusso. After breaking his right collarbone in his team's final preseason game, Reardon hadn't even gone full-contact in practice before Saturday's game at Haddonfield. This was his first game back, and his playing time was supposed to be spotty. "The doctors told me it wasn't smart to even play at all this season," Reardon said.

THROUGH ONE quarter, the Haddonfield High football team thought it had felt a comfort zone on the home turf of West Deptford. Twice, the Bulldogs had the host Eagles on their heels, facing third-and-long. When you realize West Deptford is a Wing-T offense, throwing the ball is rarely an option. "Honestly, that first half, it's a third-down game there," Haddonfield coach Frank Delano said. "Twice on that drive it was double sticks, third-and-12 or third-and-14, and they converted.

ST. REGIS WALK West Deptford, Gloucester County 609-468-8884 The St. Regis Walk townhouses in West Deptford are no-frills housing - no slant to the ceilings, no ornate moulding, no ceramic tiles. The 106 units are so generic that the developers, D'Anastasio Corp., didn't name the models. They decided to call them simply "A" and "B. " So who needs schmaltz? For $84,900 to $93,900, what you get is a new place to live with two or three bedrooms, 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 bathrooms and, if you wish, a basement.

Lloyd Smith was hot in the first half. Justin Dornisch was hot in the second. The two juniors took turns in the lead role as Holy Cross scored a 37-30 victory over West Deptford Saturday in a nonleague boys' basketball game. Smith, a 6-foot-2 forward, scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half. Dornisch, a 5-10 guard, scored all 12 of his points in the second half for the Lancers (2-0). "We're a young team and we're going to have some ups and downs," said Smith, who also collected seven rebounds.

If it's tough to separate the DePersia twins on the hardwood, it might be more difficult off the court. Nick and Rob DePersia sleep in the same room, attend the same classes, listen to the same music, like the same television shows, and hang out with the same friends. "We pretty much have the same personality," Rob DePersia said. "We even laugh at the same jokes. " His younger (by seven minutes) brother confirms that. "Sometimes we'll be in class and somebody will say something and we'll just look at each other and smile," Nick DePersia said.

When the West Deptford softball team plays at Gloucester Catholic on Thursday, it will be a family affair. West Deptford second baseman Megan Sullivan is a niece of Gloucester Catholic coach Tom Sullivan. West Deptford has been Tom Sullivan's home for the last eight years, during which he has coached the Storm, an ASA team on which players on both sides play. Marissa Lindquist is likely to be West Deptford's pitcher Thursday. If so, she would be opposed by Gloucester Catholic's Abby Merryman.

If West Deptford holds Haddonfield running back Chris Dengler to half his per-carry average in Friday's Colonial Conference showdown, the Eagles will still be in big trouble. In a sport in which 5 yards per carry is good and 10 is off the charts, Dengler is picking up 22 yards per carry. He has rushed for 309 yards on just 14 carries as Haddonfield has broken to a 2-0 start. "Just following my blocks," Dengler said. Haddonfield coach Frank DeLano said Dengler's fast start is the result of more than good blocking.

John Oehler has been named baseball coach at West Deptford, athletic director Tim Cammarota said. Oehler, a former standout catcher at Audubon and Old Dominion, was the head coach at Gloucester during the 2012 season. He spent the previous six seasons as an assistant coach. Oehler, a physical education teacher in the Pennsville school district, replaces Mike Rucci, who resigned after two seasons as West Deptford coach to become the head coach at Gloucester Catholic. "It's a great environment to build a program," Oehler said of West Deptford.
